The Governor Morehead School for the Blind (GMS.) GMS is a residential school responsible for providing educational instruction to visually impaired students in grades K-12 from across North Carolina.
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is seeking applicants for a HR Technician IIIfor the Governors Morehead School.
The primary purpose of this positionis to perform vocational and paraprofessional human resources work in the performance of human resources transactions in one or more areas of human resources and in the provision of information and advice to employees and the public.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Position serves as benefits representative for the school and is the primary contact person for all questions related to employee benefits. SALARY ADMINISTRATION:
Position is responsible for entering benefits related personnel actions into SAP to ensure proper payment of all employees. Duties include entering all employee actions separations correction of state service monitoring and tracking all actions through the personnel system to ensure budget and payroll deadlines are met following up on all pending actions.
PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT:
All new employees must serve a probationary period for a minimum of 12 months before they are eligible for permanent status. A record is kept of these employees and their eligible date for permanent status. Position is responsible for monitoring and tracking this process. Duties include determining eligibility date; forwarding the permanent status form with all necessary information to the supervisor for his/her approval and signature; ensuring work plan evaluation is attached to support and document managements decision to dismiss or award permanent status; process employee action to affect the decision; notifying employee in writing of the status change.
SAFETY AND HEALTH:
Position serves as the Workers Compensation representative for the school. Position is the primary contact for reporting work-related injuries or illness. Position will notify employees and supervisors on the procedures for reporting an accident. Ensure that proper forms are completed and forwarded to Sedgwick representative. Provide employee or supervisor with the name of a treating physician that is approved by Sedgwick. May be required to schedule a doctors appointment for the employee. At various times may contact the doctors office by phone to request information on the employee. Maintains records for the OSHA 300 log. Track lost days and restricted days for reporting purposes. Follow up and maintain up-to-date records on the status of each pending case.
This position is also required to give general assistance to other staff as needed to meet school property and program needs.

Associates degree typically in Human Resources or relevant field from an appropriately accredited institution and 2 years of experience required; or 3 years of progressive experience in Human Resources; or equivalent combination or education and experience.
