Job Description

Summary

This position will be responsible for efficiently and accurately performing blood collection and non-blood collection from donors.

Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and IRB Protocols.
  • Complete all process and procedure training as required.
  • Create a welcoming environment for donors to increase donor retention.
  • Participate in donor recruitment and retention activities.
  • Perform pre-donation donor screening qualification process according to SOPs.
    • Maintain confidentiality with respect to personnel donors and site records utilized during all duties.
  • Preparing donors for donation procedures
    • Review donor record files for accuracy and completeness and ensure documentation is performed according to SOPs.
    • Collect blood products or specimens through configuration of the collection device performing phlebotomy monitoring and disconnecting the donor upon completion according to SOP.
  • Perform daily weekly monthly annual and periodic calibrations activities.
    • Assist in performing donor center facility and equipment cleaning and maintenance daily weekly monthly and/or annual.
    • Process label and review units and samples in preparation for shipping according to specifications.
  • Perform product and sample shipment activities as necessary.
  • Monitor collection supply levels and enter purchase requests as necessary.
    • Continually improve communication process between different areas to reduce errors and increase efficiencies.
  • Member of the on-call team to respond to temperature events.

TRAVEL

  • This position may require up to 5 % travel over the course of a year.

Requirements

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year Phlebotomy experience OR Phlebotomy/Medical Assistant education program required.

Certificates Licenses Registrations Required

  • None required.

Certificates Licenses Registrations Preferred

  • Certified in Phlebotomy from a National Organization preferred.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in a variety of computer software programs including MS Office
  • Ability to work in a team laboratory environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
