Department Summary

Equal Opportunity & Regulatory Compliance is focused on ensuring compliance and access to the Universitys many programs and offerings. EORC reports jointly to the Provosts office and to the Division of Access Opportunity and Community Engagement and partners with units across campus to ensure compliance with Title VI VII and IX the Americans with Disabilities Act the Clery Act and multiple state and federal laws and regulations related to equal opportunity compliance. While the Compliance Fellow will work primary with Title VlTitle VII and ADA they will have the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of student and employee related EORC compliance matters.

Role Summary

Performs career specific duties in a particular area of law may be under the direct supervision of an assigned mentor.

The Compliance Fellow will assist in managing compliance with Title VI Title VII and ADA and would have a key role in ensuring compliant processes related to how EORC manages complaints and resolution processes. The Compliance Fellow will also assist in conducting investigations as needed and will execute ongoing investigations under the Universitys Non-Discrimination and Sexual Harassment policy. The role would include offering training to relevant campus partners assisting in investigations and resolution processes and ensuring employees receive relevant accommodations and/or supportive measures.

This position is a full-time regular role and is approved for funding up to two years.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Monitors and evaluates institutional practices to ensure compliance with federal and state laws applicable to the Equal Opportunity and Regulatory Compliance (EORC) area of responsibility including Title VI Title VII and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Conducts EORC-related training and other compliance training as needed.
  • Presents evaluates and modifies training content to reflect relevant legal and policy changes and to ensure effectiveness.
  • Conducts investigations summarizes evidence and drafts reports related to discrimination harassment and accessibility concerns.
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable state and federal laws as well as University policies related to equal opportunity nondiscrimination and accessibility.
  • Assists in updating EORC policies with a focus on Title VI (nondiscrimination) Title VII(employment discrimination) and ADA (accessibility and reasonable accommodations).
  • Ensures office confidentiality is maintained.

Essential Functions

1. Conducts legal research and drafting legal memos or white papers on a range of topics.
2. Reviews summarizes and reports on legal developments.
3. Develops and presents legal information to appropriate audiences.
4. Participates in regular meetings and discussions involving a wide range of legal and administrative issues.
