Candidates for the secondary and specialist licenses complete their practicum in the fall semester. Candidates for the school counseling early childhood and elementary licenses complete their practicum over the course of the fall and spring semesters. Candidates for the . Elementary Education and . Early Childhood Education complete their pre-practicum in the fall semester and their practicum in the spring semester.
Candidates for all teacher licenses are responsible for planning and carrying out 135 hours of teaching for which they have full responsibility. (A more detailed chart of required hours below.)
Candidates for the early childhood and elementary licenses are able to observe and teach all subject areas within the license area.
Practicum fellows work full-time following the district calendar. As long as the requirements for the practicum are met Practicum Fellows may be assigned additional responsibilities within the classroom or school. These can include but are not limited to: teaching small intervention groups providing classroom assistance substitute teaching within the practicum classroom conducting and/or grading assessments bus and playground duty.
