The Speech and Language Pathology Assistant will perform services and consultation with teachers at a school site provide activities designed to develop language skills and articulation skills including speech production vocalization and social pragmatics in students with speech/language disorders. Other duties may include administrative work meetings and collaborations with staff and parent.
What You Will Do:
- Conduct speech-language screenings using a variety of screening tools and techniques
- Follow documented therapy plans
- Document student progress in Welligent system
- Prepare therapy materials for use in pullout small group setting or in classroom setting
- Adapt or modify instructional materials as determined by student need and abilities for teacher-use in the classroom.
- Consult with general ed teachers to co-plan instructional materials or implement strategies
- Track performance data using progress monitoring tools and report progress on IEP goals
- Communicate progress to parents teachers and Speech Language Pathologist in regular meetings phone conversations and progress notes
- Participate in IEP process; attend meetings when appropriate and attend parent conferences
- Creates and maintains safe positive environment for students
- Collaborates with members of IEP Team Special Education team and School site teams
- Demonstrate knowledge of and support Aspire Public Schools mission vision value statements standards policies and procedures operating instructions confidentiality standards and the code of ethical behavior
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned
What You Will Bring:
- Speech language hearing development disorders and rehabilitation
- Articulation disorders and rehabilitation
- Effective record keeping and procedures
- Knowledge of child cognitive development and different learning styles
- Ability and willingness to implement students IEPs
- Ability and willingness to reflect and improve
- Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing conditions; ability and good judgment to take initiative to modify activities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate with general education and special education colleagues parents and community
- Ability to work independently as a self-starter in a new organization
- Ability to excel as a member of a team
- Ability to work with an ethnically and economically diverse student body
Required Education Credentials and Experience:
- Associates Degree and completion of a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant Program
- 1 year working with students with special needs in an educational setting
- Registration as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant with the State of California
- Valid California Drivers License
- Special Education Experience
- Spanish bilingual preferred but not required
