The Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Landing Page teams define and build features that optimize the way customers browse our inventory and help them easily find and reach relevant eBay pages when searching on search engines like Google Bing Yahoo etc. With literally hundreds of millions of products listed on eBay globally at any time the scale at which eBay has to consider search engine optimization puts our team in a unique position to innovate and provide immediate value to the business.
The SEO Landing Page Platform holds the buyer intent data definition for our category and model landing pages. These pages serve as important destinations for buyers who come from search engines like Google as well as those who are browsing the eBay site. The Linking Services connect those pages and enable them to show up in navigational elements like the breadcrumb and category navigation. The operational tools provide the interface for manual intervention and eventual automation of those operational tasks.
What Will You Do
As a Director you will set the vision and lead the execution of a portfolio of high-impact research and engineering initiatives that blend applied science scalable engineering and domain expertise in commerce. Youll be responsible for not only driving core innovation but also ensuring that cutting-edge systems transition into production systems with measurable business impact.
Youll collaborate deeply with partners in Product Engineering Data and Business Operations to shape product strategies and customer experiences through data-driven insight and intelligent automation.

Lead mentor and grow a high-performing team of applied scientists machine learning engineers and research managers.

Mentor and develop teams and team managers to achieve engineering excellence and state-of-the-art researches
Strategic Planning & Execution:
Develop and execute strategic roadmaps aligning with business objectives.
Provide leadership and direction on technology to the team.
Cross Functional Collaboration:
Collaborate with product management and other partner teams to align engineering effort with product vision and business goals.
Ensure consistent delivery while maintaining strong alignment with cross-functional teams.
Communicate clearly and effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
Technical Expertise & Problem Solving:
Provide technical guidance and support to the team.
Identify and solve complex technical challenges ensuring the delivery of high quality solutions.

Minimum Qualifications
12 years of experience in software engineering with a proven track record of working in high scalability availability distributed systems.
7 years of experience in a management role leading large research and engineering teams through engineering excellence and periods of transformation.
. or . in Computer Science or an equivalent professional experience
Proven ability to lead high-performing teams in dynamic environments.
Demonstrated ability to drive strategic initiatives and deliver measurable results.
Strong iterative development mindset with a sense of urgency ownership and accountability for the project success.
Excellent communication leadership and change management skills.
Comfortable collaborating with product management engineering partners and business stakeholders.
Strong knowledge of building large scale Web Services/ APIs (GraphQL/ gRPC/ REST)
Experience in scalable distributed technologies SQL No-SQL databases and streaming technologies such as Kafka
Strong communicator with a track record of influencing senior leadership
Experience managing research or AI teams - a plus
