Job Description

The Department of Speech Pathology & Audiology at the University of Nevada Reno (UNR) School of Medicine is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor non-tenure track clinical and academic Audiologist. The position is a full-time 12-month appointment with anticipated start date of July 1 2025.Priority consideration deadline for applications is 6/25/2025.

UNR is a land grant university in the State of Nevada. Nevada is a growing state with vast medical needs including the demand for well-trained speech-language pathologists and audiologists. The UNR speech pathology and audiology department (UNR-SPA) aims to fill the gap by preparing students to become exceptional clinicians by cultivating an interactive learning environment that promotes critical thinking through the introduction to scientific rigor. UNR-SPA offers B.S. in speech-language pathology and audiology M.S. and Ph.D. programs in speech-language pathology. The graduate program is CAA-accredited. The department offers a comprehensive university-based speech and hearing clinic in partnership with University Health operated by Renown Health. The department provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of individuals of all ages in our region. In addition we offer specialty clinical experiences in cleft palate autism language literacy aphasia swallowing and voice. The full-time faculty work together to support each other and the missions of the department and university with culturally responsive practices. Tenured and non-tenured faculty members are active in teaching clinical supervision and education and service; tenured/tenure-track faculty have research responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

Doctoral degree from an educational program accredited by ASHA or the Commission for Audiology Education.

Nevada Licenses in Audiology and Dispensing Audiologist (or be eligible).

Certifications: ASHA CCC-A or F-AAA

Minimum of three years of clinical experience.

Ability to work in an interdisciplinary capacity with health care professionals across the university and the community.

Preferred Qualifications

College-level didactic teaching experience.

Experience in and ability to provide clinical education and supervision to students.

Ability to provide treatment across the lifespan (pediatric and adult populations) including diagnostic intervention and counseling services. Clinical responsibilities may include hearing aid related services cochlear implant services vestibular evaluations audiologic (re)habilitation and/or applicants area of expertise.

Committed to culturally responsive practices in diverse and inclusive contexts and communities.

Dedicated to applying current best-practices to classroom teaching and clinical education.

Interested in fostering the development of students to become professional leaders.

Duties & Responsibilities

Provide didactic and clinical instruction during fall spring and summer semesters to support the educational mission of the department. This may include teaching undergraduate (BS) degree audiology focused courses practical training of undergraduate students interested in the audiology field and potential mentoring/training of speech pathology Master of Science graduate students. Provision of clinical services during the 12-month calendar year. Specific assignments are dependent on departmental needs and the background of the individual.

Primary responsibilities:

Classroom teaching of undergraduate and/or graduate courses.

Develop and manage curriculum course content and/or adapting coursework.

Provide clinical education of undergraduate and/or graduate students through clinical supervision and mentoring.

Provide clinical services to clients and their families 30%

Lead independent study academic experiences for students.

Mentor advise and participate on student committees.

Service to department school university and/or profession by serving on committees that are appropriate to the mission of the Department.

Academic advising of graduate students may be required.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees

The University is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate.
