Job Description

The Development Manager is a leader whose primary goal is to generate private revenue for Sheridan and primarily the Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies (FAHCS) by connecting donors funders and industry partners with both Faculty and broader institutional fundraising priorities and projects. They will lead the Advancement efforts for FAHCS build a team culture by bringing together Faculty leadership and collaborating closely with other Faculties departments and industry-facing units across campus to drive trailblazing strategies that demonstrate the positive economic and societal impact that Sheridan makes possible through financial support.

The Development Manager works directly with VPs Deans and Research Directors Advancement team members to attract new donor pools obtain major gifts ($500K-$999K) and investments (up to and beyond $1M) build long-term reciprocal relationships with donors and stakeholders and ensure an exceptional donor experience.

They will possess deep knowledge skill and experience leading fund development fundraising campaigns major gift philanthropy corporate and industry partnership and sponsorship planned giving and stewardship of a portfolio of major and principal gift donors.

What Youll Be Doing

  • Working directly with the AVP Deans Research and other industry-facing Directors Associate Deans and other Advancement leaders to build and implement an Advancement plan for FAHCS as well as project manage top Faculty and institutional funding priorities and projects.
  • Attract new donor pools; obtain major gifts and transformational investments; lead and support industry partnerships and funding and build long-term reciprocal relationships with donors and stakeholders and ensure an exceptional donor funder and industry partner experience.
  • Identify cultivate solicit and steward a portfolio of major and principal gift donors funders and industry partners.
  • Developing and overseeing the effort to mature Sheridans advancement operations and build capacity within FAHCS to be relationship based proactive and intentional focused on prospect/pipeline development and major gifts.
  • Serve as a leader and mentor who will attract philanthropic support and engage individuals alumni foundations industry and associations in impactful partnerships and investments.
  • Maintaining current knowledge in field of expertise; continually learns to ensure adoption of emerging innovations and best practices.
  • Acting as a Sheridan representative at both functional and social events.
  • Build and lead a team of Advancement professionals within FAHCS initially including a coordinator-level Advancement position jointly with the Director of Alumni and Annual Giving.
  • Other responsibilities and special projects as assigned

About You

Your excellent problem-solving skills allow you to resolve unexpected challenges and come up with improvements to existing processes.

The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications:

  • 4-year bachelors degree (or 3-year diploma/degree a post grad certificate and some professional certifications) in Fundraising Management Business Development Marketing Communications Public/Government Relations Public Administration Business Administration or other related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience as a senior practitioner with management experience in (a combination of experience and education to be considered):
    • Communications and donor engagement including marketing sales volunteer management and fundraising teams preferably in a post-secondary or broader public-sector setting
    • Demonstrated ability to build philanthropic relations with individuals foundations and corporations
    • Has knowledge and experience in annual giving programs as well as sustainable fundraising campaigns
    • Has experience in closing gifts of $ 1 million plus
    • Knowledge of and experience with fundraising/planned giving techniques and methodologies
    • Able to analyze research as it pertains to individual prospect identification as well as corporate and foundation giving
    • Demonstrated superior writing ability on a wide array of subjects in a variety of styles for different audiences
    • Excellent oral presentation skills
    • Demonstrated comfort and ease in networking and striking conversations with new audiences
    • Project management experience
    • Business and financial acumen; budget development and implementation
