About IHM

About the Role
The Head of School (Social Work) is a senior academic leadership role and a key member of IHMs Academic Management Team. The position is responsible for the strategic development academic oversight and operational delivery of Social Work programs.
This role provides leadership in curriculum design and accreditation ensures the quality of teaching and learning and supports academic staff development. The Head of School will work closely with professional bodies such as AASW and TEQSA build strong industry partnerships and contribute to the research profile of the School.
As a representative of IHM the Head of School will engage in academic forums foster collaborative initiatives and champion innovation and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and academic leadership for Social Work programs
- Lead the development and delivery of high-quality teaching programs
- Lead curriculum development accreditation and quality assurance in alignment with AASW and TEQSA standards
- Enhance the student learning experience through effective teaching field education and academic support
- Establish and maintain partnerships with clinical community and policy stakeholders
- Conduct and promote research that advances Social Work and Human Services
- Mentor and support academic staff in teaching research and scholarly engagement
- Participate in internal committees and contribute to institutional governance
Qualifications
- A PhD in Social Work or a closely related field
- Current professional registration with the AASW
- Demonstrated excellence in research and scholarly contributions to Social Work or Human Services
- Proven experience in academic leadership and curriculum innovation
- Strong record of building industry and community partnerships
Experience
At least 5 years experience as a Social Work academic in an Australian higher education setting - Comprehensive knowledge of AASW-accredited curriculum development and delivery
- Ability to engage with students and staff from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
- Familiarity with educational technologies and online learning tools (desirable)
- In-depth understanding of AASW and TEQSA standards
