Position Overview: The Energy & Sustainability Associate will report to the Senior Energy & Construction Manager and work to advance our sustainability and energy efficiency goals for our portfolio and for the region. All of our sustainability work supports ACTION-Housings mission: to empower people to build more secure and self-sufficient lives through the provision of decent affordable housing essential supportive services asset building programs and education and employment opportunities. The Energy & Sustainability Associate will work to minimize the environmental impact of all new development projects while also working to improve performance of the existing ACTION-Housing portfolio. Job Responsibilities Assist the Senior Energy & Construction Manager in all energy and sustainability initiatives including but not limited to: - Assisting with all energy and sustainability related aspects of the real estate development process potentially including Energy Star Enterprise Green Communities Passive House Net Zero Construction reduced HERS ratings etc.
- Coordination of data tracking methods regarding ACTIONs carbon footprint utility usage fuel sources energy consumption water consumption and expense.
- Working with Supportive Housing Management Services project manage energyrelated investments in the existing ACTION-Housing portfolio.
- Work with Property Managers to implement the Green Operations & Maintenance Plan
- Prepare and analyze financial feasibility of capital needs and sustainability improvements
- Transition to operations; work with property management to ensure that all mechanical systems are understood and well maintained as well as any software used to track electric gas and water usage.
- Research and apply for grants to support sustainability work
- Assist with policy work centered around energy efficiency and affordable housing. Monitor best practices in sustainability and participate in the formulation of legislative and regulatory proposals which would align affordable housing policy with climate change and energy security policies.
Job Requirements The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications: - A bachelors degree in a related field such as sustainability urban planning business construction management architecture engineering or real estate/housing development required.
- Ability to work with large amounts of data with great accuracy.
- Ability to take project ideas to completion and creatively solve problems.
- Ability to initiate and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with team members local government agencies consultants lenders/investors and community stakeholders.
- Ability to effectively engage community representatives tenants and other stakeholders including persons with diverse economic and educational backgrounds.
- Well-organized detail oriented and excellent analytical skills; proficiency in sophisticated financial analysis using Excel and with word processing software such as Microsoft Word.
- An entrepreneurial and creative approach to problem-solving in the field of sustainability; enthusiasm and team building spirit.
