Job Description
School District #8 (Kootenay Lake) has a vacancy for a Foods/French position at Salmo Secondary School in Salmo join our team of professionals in delivering a quality educational program to our students. This position is due to a leave.
School District 8 (Kootenay Lake) is nestled in the Southeast corner of British Columbia. We are a vibrant area covering 6 families of schools in the centers of Creston Crawford Bay Kaslo/Meadow Creek Nelson Salmo and the Slocan Valley. The awarded applicant will have recent demonstrated successful experience working collaboratively with school staff. He/she will be able to work closely with the school-based team and will be knowledgeable and able to work appropriately with students who have learning challenges. The awarded applicant will be innovative creative and demonstrate understanding of the BC Ed Plan school and district directions. He/she will be a person who is continually striving to improve pedagogy in a changing educational environment. He/she will have experience in multi-age hybrid (online and face to face) teaching and will be familiar with many online instructional tools including G-Suite.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Education
A valid BC teaching certificate through the BC Ministry of Education Teacher Regulation Branch.
Teachers applying for this position must also possess the following attributes:
Demonstrated ability to deliver an educational program in a multi-graded environment.
Recent demonstrated successful experience in an secondary setting
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues to deliver a full educational program.
Excellent classroom management skills;
Knowledge of current instructional practices and curriculum
Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills
Ability to work with a learning support teacher to implement inclusion practices for students with diverse needs.
A willingness to work closely with parents;
Excellent organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to be flexible
Experience teaching multi grade and multi subject areas within the same classroom setting
The ideal candidate will be expected to:
-Collaborate with colleagues to deliver a full educational program to students in grade 7-12
-Communicate effectively with staff and parents
-Be familiar with the BC Ed plan school district board goals and school goals
-Demonstrate a willingness to work collaboratively with others in developing school and district-based initiatives
-Implement school wide strategies to support the school boards student expectations school and class needs
-Support Individual Education Plans in a collaborative team environment
-Participate in on-going professional development and develop a personal growth plan
-Exhibit a thorough knowledge of the Intermediate level programs and of current assessment & learning practices
-Demonstrate expertise in use of authentic assessment strategies
-Be familiar with the use of learning portfolios and a letter grade free reporting format
-Be willing to engage students in meaningful community service activities
-Use technology to deliver and support student learning
