As a Senior Engineer you serve as a specialist in the engineering team that supports the product. You help develop and gain insight in the application architecture. You can distill an abstract architecture into concrete design and influence the implementation. You show expertise in applying the appropriate software engineering patterns to build robust and scalable systems. You are an expert in programming and apply your skills in developing the product. You have the skills to design and implement the architecture on your own but choose to influence your fellow engineers by proposing software designs providing feedback on software designs and/or implementation. You show good problem-solving skills and can help the team in triaging operational issues. You leverage your expertise in eliminating repeat occurrences.
The Property Design team plays a pivotal role in bringing Targets strategic vision to life through innovative space planning and design technologies. Each year we support and enable the execution of over 1000 projects driving forward-thinking solutions that shape the physical guest experience.
We develop and maintain critical systems that integrate data and design powering key functions in Merchandising and Store Mapping. Leveraging Autodesk Revit and Building Information Modeling (BIM) we facilitate real-time collaboration through digital store models enhancing both speed and accuracy across teams.
Our current initiatives focus on modernizing the design ecosystem by transitioning from traditional 2D CAD to dynamic 3D BIM workflows. Were extending vendor package capabilities through custom .NET development and building an end-to-end connected solution that transforms how design and construction teams operate across the enterprise.

Were seeking an engineer with strong experience in backend development curious to learn new technologies and fosters innovation. This role offers an excellent opportunity to expand your technical skillset while contributing to impactful enterprise-scale projects.
You will be involved in the development of new applications and capabilities and:
- Initiate and execute research and proof-of-concept activities as needed.
- Participate in design development testing deployment and support.
- Build components and libraries and is responsible for adherence to standards policies and development guidelines.
- Conduct code and design review testing and debugging activities at the application level.
- Lead functional design and architecture discussions with understanding of process flows and system diagrams to enable design decisions.

About You:
- 4-year degree or equivalent experience
- 5 years of software development experience.
- Strong experience in API development and integration
- Strong experience in database technologies and performance tuning
- Familiarity with CICD pipelines
- Demonstrates strong proficiency in core development platforms
- Demonstrates the ability to work independently with minimal assistance or as part of the broader team.
- Builds strong commitment within the team to support the appropriate team priorities
- Clearly communicates Agile concepts to partners within product team.
- Demonstrates strong communication skills and ability to effectively work with the team and stakeholders.
- Demonstrates a solid understanding of the impact of own work on the team and/or guests
- Writes and organizes code using multiple computer languages including distributed programming and understand different frameworks and paradigm
- Stays current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self-directed education
- Influences and applies data standards policies and procedures
This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Targets needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team members core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually depending upon what your role team and tasks require for that day.
