Senior Quantity Surveyor

Location: Manchester/hybrid with occasional travel to Birmingham (site travel South of Sheffield from 2026)

Contract Type: Permanent Full Time

Sector: Infrastructure Power & Energy

Were looking for a skilled Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our growing Infrastructure team at Walker Simean SME consultancy with a reputation for delivering big results backed by the strength and stability of international investment. This role is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in NEC contracts and a background in the power and energy sector particularly within overhead lines and substation projects.

Youll be working on a nationally significant infrastructure programme aimed at modernising and future-proofing a key part of the UKs electricity network. The scheme includes the proposed construction and upgrade of three major substations along with associated overhead line enhancements as part of a broader transformation of the UKs power infrastructure.

What Youll Be Doing

  • Acting as the commercial lead on a high-profile energy infrastructure project
  • Managing NEC contracts including Option C
  • Cost planning forecasting and risk management throughout the project lifecycle
  • Working closely with project managers client teams engineers and contractors
  • Supporting procurement strategy contract administration and variation management
  • Providing clear structured commercial reporting and recommendations
  • Ensuring strong commercial governance and best practice across all activity

About the Project

Youll play a key role on a nationally important power infrastructure scheme that will enhance energy flow between the North and Midlands. The project will see the delivery of three new substations and the upgrade of overhead linesdesigned to boost network capacity and enable future grid connections.

The role is primarily hybrid based out of our Manchester office with some travel to Birminghamand later to the project site near Sheffieldas activity on the ground ramps up from 2026.

What Were Looking For

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor on large infrastructure or energy projects
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts (essential)
  • Experience in power transmission substations or overhead line projects (preferred)
  • A confident communicator who can work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to balance commercial precision with a practical delivery-focused mindset
