Job Description

Paraway commenced in 2007 with the purchase of a Merino Ram Stud Pooginook in the Riverina region of NSW. Today we own and operate 27 diverse agricultural enterprises across QLD NSW and VIC with total land holdings in excess of 4.4 million hectares.

Pooginook is centrally located to the major centres of Griffith (approx. 1hr) and Wagga Wagga (approx. 2hr) and conveniently located 14kms from Coleambally with a school bus to the front gate to preschool primary and high school. Coleambally is a proactive community with many businesses in town along with a well-supported sporting and social culture offering a variety of activities with excellent facilities.

Pooginook Station comprises 19656 hectares of native and irrigated grazing land formed from an aggregation of two original pastoral holdings Pooginook and Stud Park North. Pooginook is a progressive innovative and leading Merino Stud in Australia selling around 700 rams annually.

A vibrant proactive team is key to the success of our operation and we are looking for an experienced Station Hand to join the team. We pride ourselves on a high standard of livestock handling asset development and safety. We are searching for people with a passion for livestock a strong work ethic and a dedication to a safe productive workplace. Successful applicants will work under the direction of a management team with an excellent range of skills and a desire to see people succeed.

The positions are a live on station role with accommodation and utilities provided for family couple or single applicants as well as a competitive remuneration rate on offer commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Experience with sheep livestock handling and monitoring paddock work and general station operations

  • Work livestock using your own well-trained and effective working dogs

  • Operate and maintain vehicles and farm machinery safely and efficiently

  • Carry out routine station maintenance including fencing water infrastructure and workshop tasks

  • Contribute to a safe and respectful work environment following all WHS policies and procedures

What Were Looking For:

  • A strong work ethic positive attitude and willingness to learn

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Knowledge and experience of station operations livestock care and maintenance practices

  • Good communication skills and a proactive approach to workplace safety

  • Ability to safely operate side-by-sides

  • Competency with working dogs with a preference for applicants who can supply their own

Qualifications & Requirements (Preferred but not essential):

  • Current First Aid Certificate

  • Valid Drivers Licence (Heavy Vehicle licence an advantage)

This position is not open to working holiday visa holders and candidates will be required to undergo background screening including reference checking and ideally be vaccinated for Q Fever.
