Manager, Strategy Execution

The Strategic Execution Function (SEF) has a dual mandate to 1. Enable the successful execution of strategic initiatives by providing tools and support while tracking progress and impact. and 2. Support the Fund through building world class strategy execution capabilities by developing expertise within CPP Investments. In doing so we will accelerate the One Fund evolution and pursuit of CPP Investments ambition.

Job Summary

As a Manager Strategy Execution you will support the following group activities:

• Contribute to the achievement of the One Fund strategy and overall ambition by supporting accountable executives to successfully executive complex strategic initiatives and helping to build strategy execution capabilities within CPPIB more broadly.
• Foster cross-functional partnerships to deliver key business outcomes enhance efficiency and achieve long-term business goals.
• Develop tools and training that SEF can utilize across initiatives and that other Dept. groups can access for their own projects building strategic execution capabilities within our organization.

Accountabilities:

• Support strategic initiatives within the Strategy Execution Function (SEF) including making recommendations across the project lifecycle from project set up to execution and close-out. This support will have a focus on clarity of the business opportunity defining business outcomes and OKRs actively contributing to project execution evaluating different project approaches developing recommendations for governance and budget identification of risks defining roadblock mitigation strategies and on-going change management recommendations so initiatives are set up to achieve business outcomes and desired impact.
• Support includes employing strategic problem-solving structured analysis content generation risk identification stakeholder engagement and guidance to Senior leaders to evaluate options and to form recommendations for effective decision-making by Senior leaders throughout the project.
• Build new operating models between SEF and key stakeholders. Evaluate and recommend appropriate tools for SEF team to improve productivity and efficiency. Develop metrics tied to business outcomes.
• Provide ongoing comprehensive support to MD SEF in support of specific strategic initiatives. This includes documenting outcomes of meetings with accountable executives project team meetings ensuring we are capturing the correct actions/risks/outcomes. Develop mitigation plans to remove hurdles and barriers to reduce risk of overall project. Prepare presentations summarizing the above work via creative use of tables charts and other visuals. Measure impact and value delivered by strategic initiatives collaborating with other team members. 
• Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to monitor business performance providing regular reports and insights to senior leadership and stakeholders.
• Assist in evolving our current reporting to accountable executives. Develop best-in-class communications for the relevant Steering Committees ensuring transparency and alignment with strategic goals articulation of known risks and/or ways to strengthen achievement of business outcomes.
• Evaluate build and strengthen strategy execution capabilities within the SEF. Contribute to building the Funds overall strategy execution capabilities by identifying and understanding key areas for support and establishing a plan to close the gaps (E.g. internal/external training recommendations).
• Develop a specific subject matter area of expertise in one of the areas needed to successfully execute projects and provide a recommendation for how best to propagate that expertise within the Strategy Execution function in a sustainable way.

Qualifications :

• 5 years experience of relevant experience in strategic project management and execution managing change initiatives ideally at the enterprise level
• Previous experience in investment banking or other financial service roles is helpful but not required.
• Gen AI experience would be beneficial but is not required
• Able to analyse and synthesize complex information and identify key so-whats that will drive progress on initiatives.
• Ability to use innovative tools to ensure risks and opportunities are identified and issues are raised.
• Able to develop mechanisms key metrics and relevant surveys to Accountable Executives to evaluate outcomes of initiatives evaluate success and opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Strong stakeholder management inspiring engagement amongst key stakeholders and ensuring we obtain feedback for continuous improvement of SEF function.
• Experience working on complex projects or initiatives understanding change and stakeholder management methodologies and other strategic frameworks.
• Ability to develop materials and reporting for Senior management.
• Able to analyse and synthesize complex information and identify key so-whats that will drive progress on initiatives.
• Experience managing timelines on multiple concurrent initiatives keeping managers and colleagues apprised of progress and seeking assistance as required. Strategic mindset to adapt approaches to a multitude of initiatives
• Able to evaluate tools (including AI) that will be valuable to the SEF Group and can deliver excellent user experience across stakeholders including senior management.
• Able to develop training & tools to advance CPP Investments strategic execution capabilities going forward.
• Ability to communicate in verbal and written forms complicated or complex information into digestible and easily understandable formats.
• Critical thinking and Problem solving (e.g. overcoming barriers suggesting creative solutions identifying risks and possible mitigating approaches and use of data and insight). Strong stakeholder engagement will be required across different initiatives.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills. Confidence communicating and interacting with peers and other team members internal and external stakeholders including sometimes senior management.
• Ability to influence and engage with all parts of the organization ensuring we uncover opportunities and risks.
• Strong attention to detail and consistently high level of accuracy
• Highly proficient with Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint)
