SMITHFIELD SCHOOL DEPARTMENTJOB DESCRIPTIONTitle: Assistant Principal - Smithfield High SchoolDESCRIPTIONThe High School Assistant Principal ensures students in grades 9-12 are educated in personalized learning environments that support each students academic career and personal QUALIFICATIONSHold or be eligible for Rhode Island Secondary Principal certificationMasters Degree preferredAt least seven (7) years teaching experience at the secondary levelStrong communication and presentation skills; ability to manage multiple and diverse responsibilities in a thriving comprehensive high school; ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders; a student centered leader; skilled at using data to improve learning outcomes for studentsMust be able to work evenings and weekends to supervise events as part of the administrative teamAbility to work independently and act decisively while following the Districts policies and procedures. Experience supervising state testing is preferredExperience with Career and Technical Education is preferredTeaching experience at the high school level is preferredSecondary administrative experience preferredREPORTS TOPrincipal REPRESENTATION STATUSIndividual Employment Contract with the District12 month positionDUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Lead and support District curriculum instruction and assessment initiatives Progress monitoring and supervision of high school studentsEnsure students are educated in personalized learning environments that support each students academic career and personal growthCollaborate with administrators faculty staff in improving the school communityObserve and evaluate faculty and staffAssist in the development expansion and supervision of pathways of study that lead to post-secondary credit and industry certification where applicableEnsure the effective implementation of data systems and teams that analyze data for continuous improvementLead and support professional development that enhances and supports effective teaching and learning strategiesManage student disciplineSupervision of extracurricular activities and programs as well as athletic events. It is understood that the hours of a high school administrator can be varied and will include evening and/or weekend events. Provide mentorship and assistance with new teachers/staff in adjusting to the school and communityServe as school liaison on school and district curriculum instructional and school management teamsActive participation in the development and monitoring of the School Improvement PlanHelp to coordinate faculty meetings and orientationsFacilitate development of school schedule program of studies student orientation and student handbookAssist with personnel managementShare in the coordination of student support services including MTSS to effectively and efficiently serve all studentsMaintain a visible presence in the school on the campus and at school-sponsored activitiesBe available to attend and supervise after school activities Back to School and Teaching Nights. Prepare exam schedules including proctoring and duty assignments in conjunction with other coordinators and the administrationFacilitate school safety drillsOther duties as assigned by the SHS Principal or Superintendent of SchoolsSKILLS REQUIRED:Knowledge of and experience with developing standards based units and aligning curriculum and classroom lessons to national state and local standardsKnowledge of and experience with developing the content and pedagogical knowledge of staff and enhancing instructional practicesKnowledge of and experience with the RI Diploma System and developing or managing local assessmentsKnowledge of and experience with Performance Task Development formative and summative assessments validation and calibrationDemonstrated ability to foster collegial relationships work as a productive member of a team and facilitate work groupsKnowledge and experience leading instructional changeProfessional knowledge and skills as outlined in the RI leadership standardsExperience using data to make decisionsKnowledge of and experience with pathways of study that lead to post-secondary credit and industry certification where applicable. Excellent communication skills including presentation to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students staff families and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements school committee policies and Rhode Island Education DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand walk sit and talk or hear. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision and distance vision. Frequently driving is required to meet the demands of this job. Occasionally yet essential to this position the individual must meet deadlines with stringent time constraints and interact with the public and with other workers. The position may require the employee to work irregular or extended hours direct responsibility for the safety well being or work output of other people and meet multiple demands from several ENVIRONMENT:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
