The Job
As a Senior Software Engineer on CNNs Privacy & Governance team you will play a critical role in protecting the personal data and privacy rights of millions of users. You will work at the intersection of technology policy and compliance building and maintaining systems that uphold the highest standards of data privacy across CNNs digital platforms. In this role you will collaborate with cross-functional partners including legal platform and product teams to develop privacy-centric features enforce data handling standards and support scalable solutions for consent management and regulatory compliance. You will help implement and maintain systems that operationalize privacy by design in order to proactively identify risks streamline compliance workflows and ensure CNN remains a trusted steward of user data. Your work will have real-world impact as you help shape how data is collected stored and sharedensuring transparency accountability and trust at every step of the user experience.
The Daily
Build maintain and optimize privacy-forward Android components and libraries such as consent management UIs privacy settings and data access request flows.
Collaborate with legal product and platform partners to implement features that align with privacy regulations (e.g. GDPR CCPA CPRA).
Integrate with internal and external privacy tools and APIs to support data governance telemetry minimization and compliant tracking.
Conduct code reviews maintain high test coverage and enforce mobile privacy and security best practices.
Contribute to architectural decisions that promote data minimization transparency and user control.
Debug and address privacy-related issues across the mobile stack ensuring consistent user experiences and platform compliance.
Support the documentation and communication of privacy implementations across engineering and non-technical teams.
The Essentials
5 years of experience developing Android applications in Kotlin with deep knowledge of the Android SDK and modern architecture patterns.
Experience implementing user privacy features in mobile appssuch as granular permission prompts data deletion workflows or consent UIs.
Strong understanding of mobile data flows and how to limit protect and govern data within app boundaries.
Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (e.g. GDPR CCPA) and how they impact mobile development.
Proficient in using Android development tools.
Ability to balance compliance needs with great user experiences.
Experience working in large-scale consumer applications or media organizations is a plus.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset for working with cross-functional stakeholders.
