Before & After School Program Summer Adventures Camp Assistant Site Leader
Purpose Statement
The position of Before & After School Program Summer Adventures Camp Assistant Site Leader is to assist in the management of site level before/after school program camp according to program procedures while providing a safe and secure instructional environment.
Job Title: Before & After School Program Summer Adventures Camp Assistant Site Leader
Hourly Wage: $18.25-$19.75/hour
Reports To: Manager of Before & After School Programs; Before & After School Program Summer Adventures Camp Site Leader
Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt
Working Days
- Attend Required Professional Development
- Attend site team meetings as scheduled potentially outside of program hours
- Employment dates:immediately through mid-August with opportunity to extend employment into the following school year
- Monday through Friday on camp days as scheduled
- Program hours: 6:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
- Individual employee hours will be determined based on program enrollment and may vary week-to-week. Work hours may/may not match program hours depending on employee qualifications availability and program need.
- Employees are scheduled up to 29-40 hours per week

Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Ability to maintain positive discipline and motivate students
- Ability to supervise multiple levels of staff
- Team player with exceptional human relations skills
- Ability to implement and model lesson plans
- Ability to take direction and perform advanced tasks with little supervision
- Exemplary organizational skills
- Ability to carry through multiple tasks while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to be flexible with a willingness to learn
- Ability to implement program procedures
- Meets the assistant site Coordinator requirements as set forth by the Iowa Department of Health & Human Services
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified teacher or degreed professional
- Minimum three years classroom or other relevant experience working with school-age youth
- Project management/leadership experience
- Experience as a mentor/coach with children and/or adults
- Previous supervisory experience
Essential Functions
- Administer quality Before & After School Program Summer Adventures Camp while adhering to District policy and program procedures.
- Firm understanding of District and program policy and procedures and Iowa Department of Health & Human Services minimum standards to maintain student safety and security and to respond appropriately to parent inquiries/concerns and manage assigned employees.
- Communicate program expectations and procedures clearly effectively and in a positive manner to students.
- Assist with accurately compiling and maintaining accurate site documentation and submitting required reports to the Manager by established deadlines.
- Assist with supervision and coaching of assigned employees and substitutes.
- Present a positive image of the program while providing exemplary customer care and following program procedures to safely dismiss students from the program.
- Establish a positive supportive and working relationship with assigned employees and students.
- Develop and maintain an effective level of communication with appropriate personnel including program staff District administrators and the program manager. Maintain confidentiality of personnel and student information and records.
- Maintain open communications with parents and customers while providing exemplary customer care.
- Successfully implement academic enrichment and recreational curriculum/programs; actively participate and engage in activities with students; not just supervise or observe.
- Implement positive student behavior management techniques.
- Assist the Site Leader and Manager in developing implementing and evaluating practices and procedures to improve the Before & After School Program.
- Demonstrate responsible control over assigned program resources. Ensure materials and supplies are available.
- Promote Before & After School Program services and recruit students to maintain program enrollment.
- Attend work regularly routinely and on time. Find an approved substitute for absence when necessary.
- Monitor Summer Adventures Camp facility maintenance and cleanliness.
- Maintain a continuing program of personal professional development including active participation in required training and meetings to improve program quality and ensure compliance with Iowa Department of Human Services minimum standards. Actively implement program initiatives and new learning as required.
- Have or be able to obtain current adult and child CPR and First Aid Certification with AED training within the designated timeline and meet all other Iowa Department of Health & Human Services supervisor requirements.
- Assist with special event programming field trips and guest speakers.
- Attend work regularly and routinely. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager.
Working Environment
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting carrying pushing pulling climbing reaching driving standing and walking. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity. Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress.
