The City of Berkeley California is seeking a strategic results-oriented Budget Manager to lead its complex citywide budget process during a critical period of financial and organizational transformation. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the fiscal sustainability and operational effectiveness of a progressive values-driven municipality. The Budget Manager will supervise a team of four and work cross-functionally with departmental fiscal managers serving as a key advisor to the City Managers Office City Council and departmental leadership. They will lead development of the Citys $728 million budget provide critical financial guidance for operational and capital decision-making and drive improvements in the efficiency and transparency of the Citys budget process. Priority areas include strategizing long-term solutions to a structural deficit in the Citys general fund advancing financial system modernization supporting major capital initiatives and strengthening fiscal accountability through collaborative change management. The ideal candidate will be politically astute an expert in complex governmental budgetary and operational structures and capable of mentoring a developing team while guiding data-informed decision-making across the organization.
