Medtronic is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electrophysiology expert to become a Sr. Principal Software Product Owner with our Affera Mapping and Ablation System Software Team. This role is pivotal in defining and prioritizing software work items including new product enhancements anomaly fixes infrastructure and other items for cardiac mapping and ablation medical devices.
The Sr. Principal Software Product Owner will be a key player in the Cardiac Ablation Solutions Affera Software Team working on cutting-edge technology in the electrophysiology field. This role offers a rare chance to be at the forefront of developing a groundbreaking technology that can disrupt the industry. The ideal candidate is deeply passionate about guiding a software teams work in making a tangible difference in patients lives.
They should have broad experience in the electrophysiology field with a strong understanding of mapping and ablation systems used in the lab. The ability to quickly understand and evaluate relative priority of potential enhancements and fixes is key to the role. They will take ownership of defining software features and other work collaborating closely with software engineers and other engineering teams to understand definition and effort. They will establish strong relationships with cross-functional stakeholders and be able to define and prioritize software development documentation and testing tasks for developers and testers considering cross-functional dependencies and overall business goals.
Experience working in the medical device industry with understanding of regulations such as 21CFR Part 820 and IEC 62304 following a formal product development process is preferred. The ideal candidate has excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to condense highly complex technical topics into concise clear requirements and direction.
About the Affera Mapping and Ablation System
The Affera Mapping and Ablation System is an innovative medical technology designed to treat patients with cardiac arrhythmias. The system involves advanced mapping techniques to create detailed images of the hearts electrical activity helping physicians identify abnormal areas causing arrhythmias. Once identified the Affera Ablation System delivers targeted energy to disrupt these abnormal signals restoring normal heart rhythm.
Primary Responsibilities
Define and prioritize software work for the Affera Mapping and Ablation systems across multiple workstreams geographies and releases.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders to understand business need-by dates and capabilities building and executing software release plans to ensure critical milestones are achieved.
Lead software teams in efficient sizing activities to better understand effort for work items.
Identify dependencies between programs and workstreams ensuring technical and organizational building blocks are ordered correctly for execution.
Support and advocate for the software team in pursuing technical excellence including reduction of technical debt and taking time for strong architectural groundwork.
Stay current with the latest developments in electrophysiology including attending EP patient cases every quarter sometimes in international EP labs. Attend and participate in pre-clinical in-vivo system evaluations. Participate in laboratory demonstrations for internal stakeholders and clinicians.
Anticipate and mitigate technical risks. Suggest support and negotiate decision-making tradeoffs between scope budget and schedule.
Contribute to continuous improvement within the team.
Train on and apply the appropriate standards processes procedures and tools throughout the software development life cycle following FDA regulations and IEC 62304 for medical device software.
Must-Have: Minimum Requirements
Bachelors degree and 10 years of relevant experience or a Masters degree with 8 years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications
Electrophysiology background and knowledge.
Clinical experience and credentials or advanced degrees such as: experience as an EP Mapping Specialist Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) Allied Professionals Certified Electrophysiology Specialist (CEPS) Registered Nurse (RN) or advanced degree in Engineering Computer Science or Business Administration (MBA).
Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to addressing challenges.
Highly organized with strong communication and collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Ability to condense highly complex technical topics into concise clear direction in both written and verbal communications.
Proven ability to work in a team environment engaging with technical and non-technical staff across multiple geographical R&D sites including significant remote/videoconference-based work.
Experience working in the medical device industry with baseline understanding of regulations and standards such as 21 CFR Part 820 and IEC 62304.
Tangible exposure to software coding is a plus.
Experience with Agile Software Development Methodologies (Scrum Kanban). Agile Product Owner certification is a plus.
Baseline knowledge of software engineering tools practices and processes is a plus: requirements authoring and verification systems issue/anomaly tracking configuration management source control integration/release testing rigorous verification risk analysis product security etc.
