The Oregon Department of Agriculture is seeking to hire a well talented Natural Resource Specialist to help support The Noxious Weed Control Program. As the Natural Resource Specialist 3 (Integrated Weed Management Specialist) you will be responsible for planning implementation and coordination of noxious weed management activities for noxious weed species identified in the ODA Noxious Weed Policy and Classification System. In addition you will help partners and cooperators determine how best to treat or manage infestations. You will be a regional and statewide resource for industry stakeholders state and federal agency partners and the public.
Our Natural Resource Specialist 3 (Integrated Weed Management Specialist) is a permanent full-time position and is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). The candidate will be working out of the home in Union Baker Umatilla Wallowa or Morrow county.

Working conditions
Some work may need to be conducted during evening hours. Work locations away from the office will vary including a variety of business public and field locations. Driving long distances in all weather conditions and some overnight travels are sometimes required of this position. Employees regularly apply chemical herbicide products. In addition employee will be driving 4x4 vehicles off road in rugged areas. Employees may have to hike into remote areas to implement weed control activities.

This is what you need to qualify
Three years of experience in natural resources. At least one year of the experience must be in project management research analyzing data conducting investigations applying pertinent laws and regulations or coordinating & monitoring project activities; AND
A Bachelors degree in an Agriculture Biology Plant Science Agronomy Environmental Science Natural Resource Management or related area; OR
A total of six years of related experience.
A Masters degree in an Agriculture or related education will substitute for up to one year of the required experience.
A Doctorate degree in an Agriculture or related education will substitute for up to two years of the required experience.
A valid drivers license and an acceptable driving record.
Additional Requirement
Within 30 days of hire this position is required to have and maintain a regulatory weed herbicide applicator license.
Must have knowledge and experience or the ability to gain knowledge and experience through training in driving 4x4 off road vehicle in rugged terrain areas.
Experience with GIS
Knowledge of Integrated Pest Management principles
