PreTechnical Exploratory Teacher

Burlington Technical Center

Burlington School Districtislooking for a passionate and energetic PreTechnical Exploratory Teacher to join a school committed to high levels of achievement for all students.The Pre-Tech teacher will teach 9th and 10th grade students in a variety of educational concepts and skills across a selection of BTCs 11th and 12th grade programs including. Adheres to state curriculum standards. Collects and reports on correct and detailed records of student performance. Creates and maintains a safe and respectful learning environment. Creates a relationship of mutual trust and respect with students from all backgrounds and abilities.

SCOPE OF WORK:

  • Digital Media Lab
  • Design and Illustration
  • Design Engineering & Fabrication
  • Automotive Technology and Science
  • Aviation & Aerospace Technology

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Teaching key concepts explored in Pre-Tech including:

  • Design and Illustration: Iterative design/design thinking mechanical drawing
  • Computer Aided Design (CAD)/3D modeling: Rule of thirds rapid prototyping
  • Web & Digital Communications: Video creation website development and maintenance 3D modeling rule of thirds
  • Engineering & Manufacturing: Problem definition design optimization systems of equations robotics technical communication data analysis
  • Aviation Fundamentals: Physics of flight aircraft components weight and balance rocket design
  • Automotive Technology: Engine components and combustion engine operations
  • Designing curriculum based on Vermonts career and technical education proficiencies and Proficiency-Based Graduation Requirements
  • Participating in the centers Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment statewide meetings with the Agency of Education for CTE teachers
  • Supporting outreach initiatives for recruiting new students
  • Attending BTCs faculty meetings and professional development


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship


  • Education:
    • B.S. in engineering science or similar technical degree and practical experience with design and fabrication.
  • A Vermont teaching license with a CTE endorsement or willingness to engage in the CTE teacher licensure program.
  • Experience:
  • Background and/or experience in Career and Technical Education.
  • Related industry experience.
  • Proficiency with tools such as: 3D printers laser cutters vinyl cutters CNC routers table saw chop saw drill press band saw soldering stations microcontrollers and small engine components
  • Knowledge Skills And Abilities:
  • Working knowledge: Sufficient familiarity with the subject to know basic principles and terminology and to understand and solve simple problems.
  • General knowledge: Sufficient knowledge of a field to perform most work in normal situations. The work calls for comprehension of standard situations and includes knowledge of most of the significant aspects of the subject.
  • Thorough knowledge: Advanced knowledge of the subject matter. The work calls for sufficient comprehension of the subject area to solve unusual as well as common work problems to be able to advise on technical matters and to serve as a resource on the subject for others in the organization.
  • Comprehensive knowledge: Requires complete mastery and understanding of the subject. This term should be used sparingly and only for unusually exacting or responsible positions required to originate hypotheses concepts or approaches.

List Specific Skills And/Or Abilities Required:

  1. Experience teaching and assessing student progress.
  2. Experience using and teaching with tools and electronics.
  3. Interest and ability to develop new skills and projects to stay up to date with modern technologies.
  4. Candidates should have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Ability to collaborate with colleagues and the regions secondary schools.
  6. Adhere to Burlington School Districts initiatives and core values.
