Job Description

Summary


Join our hardworking team as aPublic Works Technician in our Sewer Collection MaintenanceDivision and help keep Medfords sewer system running smoothly!

Every day brings hands-on challenges from confined space entries to troubleshooting and problem-solving making it a great fit for those who thrive in a dynamic team-oriented environment.


Required Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and
  • Two (2) years of equipment operation general construction maintenance experience or combination to successfully perform the duties of the job.
  • Completion of a one (1) year Construction Technology certificate program may substitute for one (1) year of experience.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of applicable state and local vehicle ordinances; weight limit capacities; civil construction and maintenance practices; occupational hazards and related safety precautions; etc.
  • Possession of a Class A Oregon Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with a tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain CDL and tanker endorsement within one year of hire date.
    • New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon drivers license within 30 days (ORS 807.020 (1)).
  • Maintaining a CDL is a condition of employment.
  • Ability to maintain acceptable driving record throughout employment.

Special Qualifications:
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years old by time of hire.

  • Must live within a 60-minute response time from the Citys Service Center located at 821 N. Columbus Ave.

Desired Attributes:
  • Wastewater Collections System Operator certification.
  • Experience in repair replacement or maintenance of piped utility systems.
  • Previous public works experience.
  • Certified flagger TCT and TCS
  • Experience with traffic control.
  • First Aid and CPR certified.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment including: excavators backhoes graders and paving equipment.


Available Schedule:

  • Monday - Thursday 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM
  • Employees in this position are often required to adjust to earlier start times to accommodate working in high traffic areas.

Scheduled salary increases and a potential 3.0% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) are anticipated effective July 1 2025

The anticipated hiring range for thePublic Works Technicianposition is $26.48(first step) to $27.80or $29.19(second or third step).The City of Medford determines starting pay based on an evaluation of relevant education experience andqualifications as provided by the applicant in their application materials alongside others who perform work of comparable character consistent with the Oregon Equal Pay are included in this salary range allowing opportunity for annual movement through the steps.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:
This position requires work that includes exposure to regular inside and outside noise and distractions lighting and HVAC systems in relation to temperature. This environment also includes interactions with the public contact with hot and cold temperatures and a large variety of potential health and safety exposures.

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each of the essential job functions satisfactorily. This position involves extended periods of sitting standing walking crouching bending stooping twisting turning climbing and balancing regular limb extension pinching and grasping moving lifting and carrying objects that will require frequent force of 0 25 pounds occasional 26 74 pounds and seldom exertion of 75 - 100 pounds of force as well as regular keyboard typing talking and listening both in person and over the phone and driving a wide array of motorized vehicles in all conditions. Noise exposure and hot/cold environments may also need to be tolerated. Must have the ability to use computers phones and technology as needed.
