BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
Achieving zero hunger by 2030 requires smart investments in scalable solutions that can sustainably lift
millions of people out of food insecurity and malnutrition. Resources need to be leveraged in areas where
transformative actions offer the highest return on investment and help accelerate progress towards the
achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs). It is the role of the international development community including the World Food Programme
(WFP) to provide evidence-based support to governments to address national priorities and deliver
tangible results.
While maintaining WFPs core capabilities for humanitarian response and recovery the organization
must also identify opportunities to apply its strengths in the continuum from emergency relief to
sustainable development. Through strategic partnerships WFP has an increasing role to play as a
catalyst for effective and innovative longer-term solutions that can simultaneously contribute to reducing
humanitarian needs while preserving development gains achieved to date. This includes leveraging
investments in national capacities and systems that can eventually operate autonomously without WFPs
support. For that the Strategic Partnerships Division aims at strategically positioning WFP within the
development sphere by boosting partnerships to better support national development processes and
contribute to achieving zero hunger at country-level.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Under the direct supervision of the Senior Director the Strategic Partnerships Advisor will
support Regional Bureau (RBs) and Country Offices (COs) in implementing corporate strategies
and critical initiatives. This role involves providing timely high-quality support assisting the
Senior Director and engaging with internal and external stakeholders. The Strategic
Partnerships Advisor will contribute to the following pillars of the Strategic Partnerships
Division:
2. 2. Support strategic engagement and partnership-building with the Islamic Development Bank
OPEC Fund the Arab Coordination Group and its members.
3. 3. Enhance strategic engagement and partnership-building with host governments advising on
partnership strategies and strengthening capabilities.
4. 4. Facilitate dialogue with partners proactively highlight strategic opportunities and issues to
senior management and advise on the best course of action; Define and disseminate best practices
in partnership development and provide strategic advice to internal and external stakeholders in
this regard.
5. 5. Design and implement strategies to enhance collaboration with host governments and IFIs
supporting national development priorities and the 2030 Agenda.
6. 6. Facilitate strategic dialogue and engagement with host governments and IFIs conducting
complex negotiations on strategic partnership agreements

7. Conduct research to map relevant actors and identify engagement opportunities facilitating
dialogue with partners and highlighting strategic opportunities in line with WFPs corporate
norms processes and external regulations in order to reach advantageous outcomes for WFP.
8. Provide analytical support to capture engagement opportunities with IFIs offering strategic
adviceon internal and external stakeholders.
9. Support high-level events with IFIs to advance shared priorities ensuring WFPs positions
areexplained and incorporated into decision-making and continuously improve guidance and
knowledgesharing on engagement with IFIs and host governments.
10. Conduct complex negotiations on strategic partnership agreements in line with WFPs
corporatenorms processes and external regulations in order to reach advantageous outcomes
for WFP suchas more flexibility and predictability in funding WFP programmes.
11. Support strategic engagement of the African Union (AU) and related regional institutions based
onthorough analysis of different trends.
12. Design and implement strategies to enhance collaboration with the AU and other
regionalinstitutions aligning with WFPs goals and positioning in international fora.
13. Lead and motivate a diverse team of Partnerships Officers providing coaching training
andguidance to ensure development and enable high performance.
14. Take responsibility for an equitable and inclusive workplace which incorporates all dimensions
of theWFP diversity and inclusion framework.
15. Contribute to preparedness actions providing technical recommendations and guidance and
supportrisk management.
16. Other as required by the Senior Director
