Description

This Engineer will be responsible for defining and implementing the die cast tooling from early program planning through program launch. In this role the tooling engineer will have responsibility for the tooling construction and input into the product design process development and bill of process for Unicastings. This process is a new to Ford manufacturing process and must combine both technical and leadership capabilities to drive success. Ideal candidates must navigate and drive change in a complex internal environment challenging the status quo as we define an all-new way of manufacturing vehicles.



Responsibilities

What youll do:

  • Work within a cross-functional manufacturing team towards development and execution of Unicasting tooling manufacturing from early concept through program launch.
  • Advanced knowledge of high pressure die casting tooling manufacturing processes with hands-on experience.
  • Leverage expertise from internal and external workgroups to drive strategy resolve challenges and deliver results.
  • Utilize knowledge of quality processes and systems to meet stringent industry and customer requirements.
  • Drive Voice of Manufacturing throughout product development lifecycle to ensure robust feasible and manufacturable casting tooling designs.
  • Define and launch formal standards for high pressure die cast tooling.
  • Lead scope-of-work development and competitive bidding exercises for Unicasting dies.
  • Drive continuous benchmarking of best-in-world practices for HPDC applications and utilize findings to improve Ford strategy.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5 years prior experience designing high pressure die cast tooling preferably for structural applications.
  • Strong communication skills both written and oral.
  • Working level knowledge of high pressure die casting post processing and die development processes.
  • Experience with the design and construction of large high pressure die cast tooling and trim tooling.
  • Knowledge of the maintainability of high pressure die cast dies and trim die tooling.
  • Knowledge of tool steel alloys heat treatment and coatings used for die cast and trim tools for structural aluminum castings.
  • Experience with the design and development of conformally cooled inserts and other die cooling strategies.
  • Understanding of MagmaSoft or other casting simulation software results.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing how to read drawings and interpret dimensional data.
  • Experience with 3D modelling using CATIA NX or similar software.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions in a fast paced dynamic environment.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to present persuade and collaborate at all levels of the organization.
  • Highly motivated self-starter capable of driving change and influencing engineering decisions with or without authority.
