Position Overview
Provides quality Occupational Therapy services consistent with discipline and professional standards including: prevention identification evaluation assessment education use of interventions and management of occupational performance components and performance areas; education and supervision of students and professionals; consultation with and referral to other professionals; and research. Maintains professional accountability professional judgement and reasoning with a high-level of communication and collaboration.
The Community Stroke Care Service is a centralized service within the Home Care Program that offers case coordination services Home Care support and intensive rehabilitation services to individuals who are discharged from an acute care site or an inpatient stroke rehabilitation unit following an acute stroke. The objectives of this Early Supported Discharge service includes to provide efficient timely and enhanced community services to assist persons with a stroke to maximize recovery functional independence smooth transition from hospital to home and enable client to remain in a community setting for as long as possible.
This position will provide an opportunity to gain new knowledge and skills work within an interprofessional team and contribute positively to the quality of life for persons with a stroke. The successful candidate will also participate in service evaluation and further development.
Experience
- Minimum of two years recent and related acute or rehabilitation hospital and/or community-based service delivery experience required within relevant professional designation.
- Recent and relevant clinical experience preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Entry-to-practice academic credential in Occupational Therapy from an accredited Canadian university program or the approved equivalent if internationally educated as determined by the College of Occupational Therapists of Manitoba (COTM).
- Successful completion of relevant continuing professional education in designated clinical area preferred.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Registration is required with the College of Occupational Therapists of Manitoba (COTM) with the incumbents name entered in the practicing register or in the provisional register as an examination candidate. Where the incumbent is provisionally registered as an examination candidate to maintain employment he/she must pass the examination required by COTM during the next available exam offering to maintain employment with the Centre.
- Membership in the Manitoba Society of Occupational Therapists (MSOT) and the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) preferred.
- Valid drivers license all-purpose insurance and a vehicle required.

- Willingness to adapt to new concepts techniques and best practice in the academic and clinical fields of healthcare knowledge.
Physical Requirements
- Must demonstrate adequate strength agility motor coordination and dexterity for implementation of therapeutic techniques and manipulation of therapeutic activities as necessary.
- May be exposed to infectious diseases blood and body fluids toxic materials noise allergens physical and emotional stress.
- May encounter aggressive and/or agitated clients/visitors/staff.
- May be required to work evenings and weekends.
This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.
This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
