Job Summary

The ECE Teacher is responsible for creating a safe nurturing and stimulating environment for all children. They design and implement age- appropriate learning activities the promote social emotional cognitive and physical development. The teacher will also observe and track the development progress through assessments and provide parents with regular updates; creating a safe nurturing and stimulating environment for all children.

Major Responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement lesson plans: Plan educational activities that support social cognitive emotional and physical development. These may include art music sensory play story time and motor skill exercises.
  2. Provide care and supervision of assigned children: Attend to the childrens basic needs including feeding themselves and helping with potty training.
  3. Create a safe and engaging learning environment: Ensure that the classroom is welcoming clean and safe for the children. Set up age- appropriate games and activities.
  4. Encourage social interactions: Promote cooperative play sharing and communication among the children. Teach basic social skills like taking turns expressing emotions and following simple directions.
  5. Maintain open communication with parents: Provide regular updates on childrens progress and any concerns. Address any questions or issues raised by parents in a positive professional manner.
  6. Collaborate with other staff members: Work closely with other teachers assistants and administrators to ensure consistency in classroom management and educational goals.
  7. Attend staff departmental and other YWCA meetings as assigned.
  8. Maintain familiarity with YWCA goals mission and programs.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

Supervisor: Child Care Program Director

Hours: Available from 6:15 AM- 5:30 PM Monday-Friday One night per month for in-service meetings and any other services needed.

Compensation: NON-EXEMPT 30-40 hours per week

Requirements

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; advanced degree in child development preferred
  • 1-3 years experience working with children with at least 240 hours working as an assistant teacher in a group child care setting
  • Completion of Four (4) credits in Early Childhood Education; or Two (2) non- credit department approved courses in Early Childhood Education (Introduction to the Child Care Profession and Skills and Strategies for the Child Care Teacher; or an Associates degree in early childhood education; or

forty-eight (48) credits from an institution of higher education with at least three (3) credits in early childhood education

  • Current CPR and AED certification.
  • Ability to provide a safe supportive and stimulating environment for children.
  • Detail-oriented with good communication problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to develop a team approach with staff volunteers and community partners.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; enthusiastic warm and approachable.
  • Experience working with culturally and economically diverse populations.
  • Good judgement when making decisions. Able to make collaborative decisions for the good of the YWCA.

Physical Requirements:

o Ability to lift and carry children up to 40 pounds.

o Ability to bend squat kneel and sit on the floor for extended periods.

o Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods.
