The Opportunity

The purpose of this role is to underwrite business in accordance with the business plan within set underwriting guidelines service standards and within individual earned or delegated underwriting authority.. This role involves underwriting complex new businesses and offering specialist advice. Additionally the role is responsible for building and maintaining broker relationships applying technical expertise contributing to business results staying informed about industry standards and new product introductions and coaching and mentoring Underwriters and Assistant Underwriters.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the delivery of the annual business plan for the respective business unit by making appropriate decisions.
  • Apply the reinsurance strategy to safeguard the portfolio.
  • Participate in relevant meetings to share and develop strategy knowledge and best practices.
  • Positively promote the department division and company to maximise brand leverage.
  • Perform underwriting activities following legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met.
  • Adhere to underwriting standards instructions and good practice to minimise risk and maximise efficiency.
  • Establish strengthen and develop relationships with stakeholders to maximise influence and achieve business objectives.
  • Understand and comply with reinsurance requirements to minimise risk and deliver business plan objectives.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of market dynamics and market cycles to enhance business performance.
  • Maintain expertise and team knowledge through identifying appropriate learning and development activities.

Work Experience:

Preferred Work Experience includes:

  • Moderate experience in underwriting.
  • Established customer/intermediary relationships.
  • Established customer/broker relationships.
  • Fluent Spanish speaking
  • Experience with Latin American Property Markets

Qualifications:

Necessary Qualifications include:

  • Tertiary Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Relevant Underwriting Authority

Compensation Package: The salary range for this role is provided above. This is the national range for location(s) listed. The salary offer will be decided based on the roles complexity its location and the candidates professional background including their education and experience. Beyond the base salary regular full-time and part-time employees will also be eligible for QBEs annual discretionary bonus plan based on business and individual encourage all candidates to apply even if their salary expectations fall outside of this range as we are committed to finding the right fit for our team.
