About NAITSA

NAITSA is a non-profit organization that exists to provide services representation and leadership to students enrolled in credit and apprenticeship programs at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT). Our mission is to enhance the NAIT student experience by advocating for their rights representing their voice creating a culture of engagement and leadership while providing student-driven services.


The Opportunity

Our Communications team works hard to support all departments within NAITSA as students count on us to keep them informed on campus. Were looking for a creative and detail-oriented Graphic Designer to join our Communications team. In this role youll collaborate closely with internal clients to develop compelling press-ready materials that align with project goals and brand standards. Youll manage multiple design projects from concept to completioncreating timelines coordinating with stakeholders and ensuring high-quality results across print and digital formats.


Who Were Looking For

The ideal candidate is highly organized proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and comfortable balancing creative development with production demands (experience working in a MacOS environment is an asset). The keys to success in this role include being highly organized responsive to feedback and committed to continuous learningsomeone who thrives both independently and as part of a collaborative team.


Responsibilities

This position reports to the Communications Director and has the following overall responsibilities:

  • Design print-ready and digital materials that align with project goals and brand standards.
  • Collaborate with internal clients to understand design needs and support concept development.
  • Develop project timelines and manage workflows using project management tools.
  • Ensure high-quality design execution through strong layout typography and colour use.
  • Prepare production-ready files using Adobe Creative Suite and conduct thorough quality checks.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously meeting deadlines and budget requirements.
  • Maintain organized digital archives for design projects.
  • Stay current with design trends tools and best practices.
  • Support broader communications initiatives including photo shoots web projects and team collaboration.
  • Create and maintain reference materials for design and production workflows.


Qualifications / Required Skills / Considerations


If youre interested in being a part of this team there are several key skills and attributes you should make sure to review before you apply:


  • Education: Post-secondary diploma or degree in graphic communications design or related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years of professional design experience with a strong portfolio showcasing a diverse range of work (large-format and/or environmental graphic experience an asset).
  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop Illustrator InDesign) and other relevant design software. Experience working in a MacOS environment is required.
  • Impeccable attention to detail ensuring high-quality polished design outputs.
  • Strong understanding of typography colour theory and layout principles.
  • Excellent communication with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting or work independently.
  • Thrives in a dynamic cyclical environment with varying workloads effectively managing multiple priorities during peak periods and tight deadlines.
  • Must be highly adaptable and able to perform effectively under pressure managing unexpected challenges and shifting priorities to support organizational needs.
  • Strong working knowledge of print production processes including preparing press-ready files and collaborating with vendors.
  • Familiarity with project management principles and tools such as Trello or Asana to organize and track design workflows.
  • Knowledge of brand identity development and how to effectively support marketing strategies through impactful design elements.
  • Additional Skills: Photography skills are considered an asset and may enhance the versatility of this role.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Employment is conditional upon completion of a satisfactory Canadian Criminal Record Check.


Working Conditions

  • Position Status: Full Time Permanent
  • Work Location: NAITSA Room OSt NW Edmonton AB T5G 3H4. Occasional flexibility for hybrid work.
  • Work Hours: Monday to Friday standard office hours 37.5 hours/week. Occasional flexibility is required to accommodate tight deadlines special projects or peak periods.
  • Physical Requirements: Sedentary primarily at a computer workstation. Occasionally required to lift and transport materials weighing up to 40 lbs.

  • Salary: $53000 $57000 per year commensurate with experience
