DescriptionThe Manager Electronic Engineering is responsible for managing Electronic Systems engineering issues on new construction projects at Seaspan Shipyards. Under the direction of the Manager Electrical Systems-New Construction at Seaspan Shipyards the Manager Electronic Systems Engineering participates in all phases of new construction design projects including design preparations project and procurement planning engineering and project risk management engineering execution and engineering close-out activities. These responsibilities ensure that the goals and objectives of engineering projects are accomplished within the prescribed engineering plans schedules and budgets and that the work is in complete satisfaction of the requirements. This role is also responsible for liaison with external partner design teams to ensure that the Electrical Systems model is produced in accordance with the current equipment information and the production design standards and procedures.
Note: Due to business needs this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue North Vancouver.
What youll do
- Provides comprehensive discipline expertise in all areas of Electronic Systems including Internal Communications External Communication Navigation Systems and Electronic Mission System by reviewing proposals scopes of work establishing budgets and schedules to ensure contract design requirements are met.
- Directs technical staff for drawing issuance and designs ensure timely completion of the electronic system design elements.
- Develops and/or reviews specifications and design documents for fisheries icebreaking and naval replenishment vessels in order to achieve customer Classification Society and regulatory approval.
- Provides mentoring and technical advice to subordinate engineers in the department in support of departmental replacement and succession planning.
- Represents the company to industry to develop understanding of Seaspans involvement in FFR and continue to build our reputation.
- Builds team capability by training and developing others in order to ensure future team effectiveness.
What youll bring
- Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Communications Engineering is required.
- 10 years post-secondary experience in a systems engineering environment ideally in the defense industry of which 4 years includes supervision of sub-ordinates is considered necessary.
- A minimum of 4 years of shipyard experience is required or related defense industry position
- 5 years experience working on projects involving diverse stakeholders.
- All applicants must be able to obtain a Canadian NATO Secret clearance and meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the Canadian Controlled Goods Registration Program and ITAR.
- Analyze define and maintain customer system and regulatory requirements in a system engineering life cycle tool for one or many communications networks.
- Based on requirements develop a communication network design for wired wireless and IT areas that also satisfies various build cost schedule logistics and other non-technical constraints.
- Analyze a communication network design from various perspectives such as reliability security buildability maintainability and more.
- Based on a design create communication network configurations which includes wired network wireless network and IT components.
- Using system engineering processes verify and validate a communication network design (e.g. via documentation testing analysis etc.).
- Troubleshoot and investigate various complex network issues.
- Create and maintain technical documentation and strict configuration control of a communication network deployment.
- Evaluate existing third-party communication network designs and their interaction communication networks such as development of interface definitions RF interference security assessment.
- Support and develop technical interfaces to other groups within the company.
- Prepare and execute design reviews in accordance with a system engineering process.
- Above average analytical skills to gather and analyze/synthesize data confirming its accuracy and adequacy as an integral part of the collective analysis/synthesis process.
- Strong technical writing skills including the ability to produce and present clear detailed written technical specifications procedures and reports.
- Knowledge of MRP purchasing and management systems.
- Working knowledge of CADMATIC and ACAD software document management systems and database
- Good organizational skills.
- Availability and willingness to travel to Seaspan Victoria Shipyards.
- Committed to a high standard of safety and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the employers safety policies and rules.
- Exercise sound judgments and make decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
- PC proficiency required working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office 2010 software suite (Excel Outlook Word PowerPoint).

The estimated salary for this position is $143100 - $174900. In determining final salary Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidates skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Companys sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
