Description of Work

This position with NCDOT offers full State Benefits competitive salaries and many career development opportunities.

This posting is for an Engineering Technician I in the Salisbury Construction office. This position performs technical duties supporting engineers and other professionals in areas such as construction inspection surveying materials testing materials sampling erosion control inspection and construction traffic control audits on assigned projects. Work duties may include inspection for compliance and/or code collection and analysis of field data testing of materials reviewing and interpreting design plans and analyzing engineering related data and/or product data. Duties may also include construction layout measuring staking marking and clearing brush. This position will perform other related duties as required.

Applicants will be required to have a close visual acuity to use testing instruments to read plan details to make accurate field measurements and to inspect roadway and structure components. Employees in this position may be exposed to high traffic volumes may work at heights over water or traffic and may have to climb on the substructure and superstructure of bridges. This position must be able to safely perform manual tasks involving the bush axe and other tools on steep and rough terrain. This position is expected to carry testing equipment over rough and steep terrain. This position will be required to lift and carry at least 50 pounds. The successful applicant for this position is expected to safely work high above ground safely operate a motor vehicle be proficient in record keeping and engineering testing equipment.

The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle.

Safety-toed shoes required.

Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associates degree in Civil Engineering Technology Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
