The IT Project Manager plays a key role in advancing the Universitys strategic goals by leading and coordinating IT projects across academic administrative and technical areas. This position collaborates closely with University leadership cross-functional teams external consultants and vendors to ensure projects are delivered on time within scope and on budget.
The IT Project Manager oversees the full project lifecyclefrom intake and planning to execution and closurewhile maintaining the Universitys project portfolio. Core responsibilities include managing project scope and approvals scheduling resources leading project meetings tracking tasks and risks and providing clear timely communication to stakeholders. This role also produces regular status reports and ensures alignment between project outcomes and institutional priorities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Project Planning and Coordination - Manage project intake define scope and objectives obtain necessary approvals and coordinate technical and functional resources. Ensure all projects align with University goals and are thoroughly planned before execution.
Project Monitoring and Documentation - Lead regular project review meetings document decisions identify and track risks manage tasks and costs and ensure all project information is accurately maintained.
Stakeholder Communication and Reporting Maintain open communication with project teams and University leadership report on progress highlight issues or delays and escalate as needed.
Project Portfolio Management - Maintain the Universitys IT project portfolio in the project management system ensuring data is current accessible and provides visibility into all projects and dashboards.
Resource Scheduling and Management - Schedule and manage availability of functional and technical resources aligning staff and consultant capacity to project needs and preventing bottlenecks.
Issue Resolution and Risk Management - Identify project risks implement mitigation strategies and lead issue resolution efforts to ensure project continuity.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or equivalent relevant experience
3-5 years experience
Possesses advanced knowledge of project management principles tools (e.g. Microsoft Project Smartsheet Jira) and methodologies. Understands university IT environments compliance standards and vendor contract requirements.
Applies strong analytical skills to evaluate project data identify trends and anticipate risks. Assesses competing priorities and proposes effective solutions to meet goals within time and resource constraints.
Leads end-to-end project planning execution and closure across complex IT initiatives. Develops project charters timelines and resource plans and ensures adherence to scope budget and quality standards.
A deep understating of the use of information technology in higher education to positively impact the teaching and learning experience and the administrative effectiveness of the University.
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge of Jira and Confluence.
Licenses and Certificates:
PMI certifications such as Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) are preferred but not required.
