The Department of Environmental Protection Bureau of Remediation and Waste Management is seeking to fill an Environmental Engineer vacancy in Augusta.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This position provides professional engineering expertise and technical support during the investigation and remediation of sites. The primary focus of this position is to evaluate remediation technologies and approaches to address emerging contaminants such as Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) in groundwater/drinking water supplies. The evolving science and understanding of these contaminants require an experienced professional to support program staff and effectively implement solutions. Tasks include reviewing engineering proposals and project plans contract administration with treatment system vendors; maintaining and updating treatment system specifications; and performing ongoing research on techniques and technologies to improve program specifications and system effectiveness. The position would also provide engineering services as needed to other BRWM programs. Emphasis would be on evaluating water treatment system design operations and maintenance. The work is performed under limited supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelors Degree in Environmental Civil Sanitary Mechanical or Chemical Engineering and four (4) years of engineering experience. Related experience may be substituted for education on a year or year basis.

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class): Licensure as a Professional Engineer by the Maine State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers.
