St. Bernardine Parish located in Baltimore seek candidates for a Music Minister. There are two openings at this location. The Music Minister reports to the Pastor and maintains responsibility for enabling parishioners to encounter Jesus Christ through music within the liturgical celebrations and worship experiences of the Parish. The Music Minister is tasked with ensuring that the liturgical music assists all believers to express the gift of faith that is within them and to bring a spirit of unity through music into the celebration. The scheduled hours are 5-10 hours per week working Saturday and Sunday Masses and rehearsal.
Essential Functions
- Directs the music program selecting and planning music in cooperation with the Coordinator of Liturgy and the Liturgy Committee.
- Ensures ministry complies with the requirements of the Archdiocesan office of Child and Youth Protection.
- Ensures musical coverage for all weekend Masses and other liturgical celebrations including weddings and funerals (additional stipend provided). Personally responsible for playing for three Masses each weekend.
- Builds repertoire and encourages participation of parish community in singing.
- Supports annual planning for liturgical seasons sacramental celebrations multi-cultural celebration and other special liturgies.
- Maintains equipment and resources.
- Provides liturgical formation music education and practical preparation for cantors/choirs/musicians.
- Serves as a resource to help others understand the role of music in worship and to celebrate liturgies of high musical quality.
- Visibly present and active at principal parish events.
- Recruit musicians as needed; attempts to foster a welcoming environment for newcomers and others interested in sharing musical gifts.
- Fosters unity of purpose and harmony among all music ministers and between priests lay staff and other liturgical ministers.
Position Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in music or related field required; Masters degree preferred.
- Knowledgeable of and comfortable with Church music literature in all forms and styles.
- Proficient in Catholic liturgical principles; thorough understanding of the musical liturgical and pastoral judgements which must be made in selecting liturgical music.
- Proficient in organ piano and at least one other performance area.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with clergy staff parish leaders and volunteers.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Possesses a strong clear vision of how the local Church can worship in prayerful and dynamic ways and the ability to implement that vision.
- A practicing Catholic with understanding and support for the Catholic Churchs teaching mission and values is preferred.
Range: $28.00 - $35.00 hourly
