Summary:
Provides primary support to the provider by proactively anticipating the provider needs preparing the patient for the visit using established patient preparation guidelines maintaining efficient patient flow and assisting the provider with treatments and procedures. Performs procedures with completed and documented competency within organizations MA scope of work PHS policy and under the supervision of a provider. Administers approved medications under the order and supervision of the provider. Provides support for clerical functions to include scheduling referrals prior authorizations and template changes. Performs activities to maintain a clean stocked safe and well-organized patient care environment. Provides in-basket support within the EMR. Promotes work and processes of the clinical environment to achieve exceptional patient experiences and increase employee satisfaction and engagement. Responsible for serving as a role model of the standards of ambulatory practice functioning as a resource for the interprofessional team.

Other information:
*High school diploma or equivalent required
*Six months of MA experience or successful completion of a Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant program from an accredited school required
*Successful completion of Presbyterian MA Advanced Skills Training within 90 days of hire
*BLS (AHA Red Cross or ASHI Healthcare Provider) required within 90 days of hire
*Maintains current certifications in required emergency response trainings (i.e. BLS)
*Completes all Organizational Department of Nursing and Department-Specific competency training/requirements within specified timeframe.
Orthopedic and Podiatry Departments Only:
*ROT Registered Orthopedic Technologist Required within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities:
Direct Care Activities:
*Responsible for performing medical assistant procedures after completion of competency within organizations MA scope of work under the supervision of a provider and PHS policy.
*Prepares patient for rooming and exam
*Prepares and administers medications and immunizations
*Performs suture/staple removal and dressing changes
*Collects and prepares laboratory specimens
*Provides basic education to patients
*Sets up aseptic and sterile procedures
*Performs office-based procedures
*Performs basic foot care
*Assists with additional procedures as determined by provider
*Responsible for orientation of new hire MAs
*Assists with visit closure
*Participates with care team to meet patient care and clinic needs.
*May perform scribe duties after completing PMG scribe training
*Serves as a mentor performing check-ins with assigned new hires at 30 days and quarterly during the first year of employment
*Serves as a validator of competence for MA skills
*Participates in new hire and annual skills training as needed
*Serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for clinic area of expertise EMR in-basket/message management
*Acts as a regulatory champion by performing regulatory audits and entering results into the appropriate tracking system
*Responsible for education and monitoring of staff compliance with policy procedures regulations and standards of care. Collaborates with clinical leaders to identify educational needs and plans of action when deficiencies occur

Indirect Care Activities:
*Responsible for Kanban system for stocking exam and procedure rooms
*May perform supply ordering as directed
*Maintains a clean organized safe well-stocked environment and follows infection prevention and regulatory standards
*Participates with care team to meet patient care and clinic needs.
*Provides support for clerical functions including template changes when needed.
* May assist with management of staff schedules time care and call ins
*Manages patients calls and in-basket messages.
*Schedules patient appointments according to guidelines
*Monitors providers schedule to identify no shows for rescheduling
*Manages prior authorization for durable medical equipment diagnostics medications and/or specialties
*Manages referrals for diagnostic testing or specialist
*Manages and maintains tracking of Advanced Directives FMLA and other patient forms Customer Service and

*Proactively supports the integration of evidence-based practice content processes and interprofessional collaboration at the point of care to achieve optimal patient care experiences and outcomes.

*Prepares patient for the visit using established patient preparation guidelines
Message Management/Test Result Notification:
*Responsible for taking patient calls and initiating Telephone Encounter(s) for the providers and care team
*Trained in various programs to include but not limited to scheduling prior authorizations and referral management
Communication:
*Communicates pertinent patient data to provider.
Equipment and Procedures:
*Acts as a point of care trainer within the clinic setting
*Uses equipment and performs patient care procedures in a safe competent manner according to defined standards of practice
