Job Description
Lab Accessioner(Overnight)
Location: Port Jefferson NY
Hours: M-F (Overnight Hours)

Key Responsibilities:
Accurately receive and accession patient specimens in accordance with NYCBS protocols and CLIA/CAP/CLEP standards
Verify patient identification test requisitions and specimen labeling for accuracy and completeness
Enter all pertinent demographic and test information into the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
Sort and prepare specimens for testing reference laboratory processing or in-house workflows
Communicate any discrepancies or urgent issues to the appropriate lab or clinical personnel
Maintain specimen integrity and proper storage conditions during the overnight shift
Adhere to all safety and infection control procedures
Assist with inventory specimen tracking and routine cleanup of the accessioning area
Collaborate with night shift laboratory staff and support team members to maintain workflow efficiency
Perform additional duties as assigned by lab leadership
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or relevant certification preferred
1 year of experience in specimen processing phlebotomy or a clinical laboratory setting preferred
Familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory information systems (LIS) a plus
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment
Must be able to stand for extended periods and perform light to moderate lifting
