Job Title: Lab Coordinator I II or III (Open Rank)

Job Summary:

The Center for Surgical Innovation (CSI) at the University of Coloradois a multidisciplinary surgical training center dedicated to promoting educational courses and development of leading-edge surgical techniques and technologies.

This position will assist the Lab Manager with coordinating the individual trainings which could consist of anywhere from 5-200 people on any given day to accommodate the clients schedules. The lab coordinator contributes to the overall efficiency of the laboratory in a cost-effective manner by performing a variety of tasks; for instance: assisting in the setup of the lab for trainings helping in running individual bioskills events maintaining and organizing the lab facility. This position will work side by side with the other lab coordinator and when needed will coordinate the work of the lab support staff.

Laboratory Coordinator I Job Duties

Event Coordination & Client Communication

  • Communicate with clients (sales reps surgeons faculty residents etc.) via email phone and in person to coordinate laboratory events and surgical training sessions.
  • Arrange necessary materials and equipment for events (e.g. C-arms surgical specimens catering etc.).
  • Keep the Lab Manager and Executive Director informed about laboratory activities and provide post-training updates to facilitate accurate invoicing.

Laboratory Operations & Maintenance

  • Manage inventory and handling of surgical specimens ensuring appropriate storage and tracking.
  • Maintain and organize surgical instrumentation supplies and records.
  • Assist in maintaining lab equipment and ensuring cleanliness adherence to operational procedures and proper supply provision.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure smooth lab operations.
  • Support lab activities by setting up equipment and assisting with training sessions.

Training & Team Support

  • Assist junior team members by providing guidance on laboratory procedures.
  • Attend regular meetings with the Lab Manager and communicate training updates.
  • Complete all required institutional trainings and compliance courses to uphold operational standards.

Specimen Handling & Logistics

  • Manage freezing refrigeration and transportation of surgical specimens.
  • Coordinate specimen receipt update calendars accordingly and position specimens for training sessions.

Administrative & Inventory Management

  • Develop and maintain laboratory record-keeping systems including inventory logs and spreadsheets.
  • Organize and track lab supplies equipment and package handling to ensure operational efficiency.

Laboratory Coordinator II Job Duties

  • Ensure proper inventory management and handling of surgical specimens including appropriate storage and tracking.

  • Lead efforts to maintain lab equipment cleanliness adherence to operational procedures and proper supply provision.
  • Develop and refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to enhance efficiency in lab operations.
  • Supervise and support junior team members in executing lab activities and event setup.

Training & Team Support

  • Provide mentorship and training to junior laboratory staff and new personnel on operational procedures.
  • Serve as a resource for troubleshooting laboratory setup and event coordination.

Laboratory Coordinator III Job Duties

Event Coordination & Client Communication

  • Directly engage with clients (sales reps surgeons faculty residents etc.) through email phone calls and in-person meetings to coordinate laboratory events and surgical training sessions.
  • Oversee the procurement and strategic allocation of materials and equipment necessary for events (e.g. C-arms surgical specimens catering etc.).
  • Maintain high-level communication with the Lab Manager and Executive Director ensuring accurate reporting of lab activities and post-training updates for proper invoicing.

Laboratory Operations & Maintenance

  • Develop and oversee laboratory operational standards ensuring proper specimen handling storage and inventory management.
  • Maintain oversight of surgical instrumentation supplies and record-keeping systems.
  • Establish and implement lab maintenance protocols ensuring cleanliness adherence to SOPs and efficient supply distribution.
  • Lead operational improvements by refining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and workflow efficiencies.
  • Supervise lab activities troubleshoot operational issues and ensure seamless execution of events and training sessions.

Training & Team Leadership

  • Lead and mentor junior laboratory staff providing technical guidance and professional development opportunities.
  • Oversee training initiatives ensuring personnel are equipped with necessary skills to support surgical training sessions effectively.
  • Serve as the primary resource for troubleshooting and problem-solving during laboratory events.
  • Coordinate regular meetings with the Lab Manager providing insights on training updates and operational needs.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional training requirements and professional development courses.

Specimen Handling & Logistics

  • Manage the freezing refrigeration and transportation of surgical specimens ensuring adherence to handling protocols.
  • Oversee the receipt of tissue update calendar schedules and manage positioning of specimens for surgical training events.
  • Ensure compliance with disposal regulations for laboratory materials and specimens maintaining safety and operational standards.

Administrative & Inventory Management

  • Design implement and maintain record-keeping systems for inventory management procurement logs and laboratory operations.
  • Oversee budget allocations and expenditures for laboratory supplies ensuring fiscal responsibility and resource optimization.
  • Establish efficiency improvements in package handling laboratory supply organization and procurement tracking.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

Laboratory Coordinator I

  • Two (2) years of relevant experience working in a lab or Bioskills industry

Laboratory Coordinator II

  • Four (4) years of relevant experience working in a lab or Bioskills industry

Laboratory Coordinator III

  • Five (5) years of relevant experience working in a lab or Bioskills industry

A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelors degree on a year for year basis

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in biology molecular biology chemistry genetics or related field

Competencies: Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy physiology medical terminology
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information
  • Ability to work with cadavers and live animal models.
  • Ability to multitask is fundamental.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:

  • LABORATORY COORD I $51518-$61344
  • LABORATORY COORD II $65728-$78277
  • LABORATORY COORD III $72473-$86309

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the Universitys good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
