Purpose of specific work area and position

The Bushfire Resilience and Operational Support Branch leads strategic and operational asset management bushfire mitigation strategy and land use planning resilience for the Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ). The Operational Support function comprises of operational and non-operational staff within two teams fleet enablement and centralised equipment management.

Reporting to the Manager Fleet Enablement you will be a key member of the team responsible for assisting with the execution and operationalisation of activities to support a coordinated response to fleet planning procurement operations maintenance and disposal activities. You will work closely with internal subject matter experts external suppliers as well as volunteers and staff in Areas Districts and Regions to lead the identification implementation and evaluation of initiatives to enhance fleet management across the state.

Highly desirable requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders from rural and near rural communities.
  • Knowledge of or experience working with volunteers and/or within a volunteer organisation.
  • Knowledge and experience in utilising firefighting assets.

Primary duties

This Role Specification Statement appends to the generic RFSQ Rural Officer Two (RFSO2) role description (key accountabilities and capabilities) and provides clarity on the duties of this role and will see you lead by example and model QFD values and behaviours in the delivery of the responsibilities of the role which includes:

  • Lead development of induction packages including content development and delivery through train-the-trainer models to support the safe and effective operationalisation of fleet.
  • Drawing upon a high level of experience in utilising firefighting fleet assets undertake user acceptance testing to ensure new fleet are ready for delivery.
  • Provide high levels of customer support to staff in the Regions including assistance with issue resolution and provision of fleet management advice ensuring alignment with organisational doctrine.
  • Play a key role in supporting compliance through doctrine development maintenance of high quality data records and application of high level knowledge in relation to fleet safety and legislative requirements in a firefighting service.
  • Support the identification implementation and evaluation of initiatives to enhance fleet management within RFSQ.
  • Provide injections of general program support as required across other portfolios within the Operational Support Unit to ensure achievement of broader objectives and targets.

  • Rural Officer One (RFSO1) or applicants with equivalent industry experience appropriate skills knowledge are encouraged to apply.

  • Incumbents may be required to travel and work within their area of responsibility and may also be required to undertake intrastate interstate deployment and travel.
  • This is a day work position with flexible hours of work to meet functional demands including working at night or weekends as part of the role.

  • Have proven commitment to maintaining competencies and operating in a team environment and will actively participate in an On-Call roster system as required.
