Job Description

The incumbent will help manage plan and administer the operations of a mid-size academic group. They will report to Dr. Boxer in a unique position with plenty of room for growth into a high-level administrative and operational position. It requires making decisions using sound judgement discretion and professionalism while working closely and collaborative with Dr. Boxer and other members of his team. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment possess exceptional organizational skills and have a passion for contributing to impactful medical research.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on several factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $75700 - $123100 (Annual Rate).

  • Interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication active listening critical thinkingpersuasiveness advising and counseling skills.
  • Knowledge of a variety of administrative operational activities such as event planning basicfundraising processes risk management planning website design accounting and payroll andcontracts and grants regulations and guidelines.
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes with knowledge of a variety of administrative operational activities such as event planning and contracts and grants regulations and guidelines
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong skills in short-term planning analysis problem-solving and customer service.
  • Experience with surveys and presentations including related software (e.g. Smartsheet Qualtrics Excel PowerPoint etc.)
  • The ability to work autonomously and conduct oneself in a highly professional manner.
  • Proven ability work collaboratively with other cross-functional teams and establish cooperativeworking relationships with patients co-workers & physicians.


    • Thorough knowledge of University rules and regulations processes protocols and procedures for budget accounting and fund management and / or personnel management.
    • Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques and / or human resourcespolicies and procedures for staff and academic employees.
    • Solid knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.

    The UCSF Memory and Aging Center (MAC) is an internationally renowned clinical center for dementia care research and education in the world. Since its inception in 1998 the MAC has grown from 3 people to more than 300 scientists researchers healthcare providers and staff. The MAC provides clinical care for patients suffering from neurodegenerative disease processes; from this clinical population external referrals and direct recruitment efforts we enroll patients into more than 50 structured research protocols and/or treatment trials.

    Dr. Boxer joined the Memory and Aging Center in 2002 as a neurobehavioral fellow; he started seeing patients and doing eye movement research to study attention and frontal lobe function. In 2005 he was asked to lead UCSF efforts for a clinical trial involving Bapineuzumab the first anti-amyloid monoclonal antibody tested in humans for Alzheimers disease. This promising study inspired Dr. Boxer to build a clinical trials program for memory disorders at UCSF.

    Since its inception Dr. Boxer and his passionate expert clinical trials team have designed a research program with patients and their families at the center. Together they have run over 50 clinical trials and other research projects. The Boxer Lab has led global efforts to advance clinical trials for frontotemporal dementia and progressive supranuclear palsy rarer diseases sometimes misdiagnosed as Alzheimers or Parkinsons diseases. Our teams mission is to find effective scientifically based treatments that lead to a cure for neurodegenerative brain diseases. This is accomplished through clinical trials that emphasize patient and family benefits and public health impact and observational studies that deepen our understanding of the biological mechanisms of neurodegenerative disease. We envision a world without degenerative brain diseases of aging. Short of this a supportive and safe environment to access the latest experimental therapies.
