Position: Associate Director Revenue Cycle

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: As the nations largest and most experienced provider of LGBT medical and mental health services we help LGBTQ people lead healthier happier lives by keeping their minds and body well. All services are free or low cost. Were also one of the few Federally Qualified Health Centers in the nation with providers who specialize in primary care for LGBTQ people and with a research team working to advance the care and treatment of people in our community.
JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer the Associate Director Revenue Cycle works in partnership with Health Services leadership to oversee and optimize all phases of the revenue cycle for Health and Mental Health Services (HMHS). This role is directly responsible for ensuring efficient and accurate processes across charge entry eligibility verification claims preparation payment posting adjustment processing cash application and patient refunds. The Associate Director leverages multiple electronic systemsincluding the EHR practice management software claims platforms automated eligibility tools payment clearinghouses and revenue cycle reporting systemsto drive operational excellence and maximize reimbursement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
35% Billing Operations Management
Oversee all aspects of billing including timely electronic and manual charge submissions and collection monitoring
Ensure accounts are billed accurately and payments and adjustments are applied correctly
Create and implement standardized procedures for billing and collections
Perform monthly close prepare financial accruals and report actual revenue
Maintain current knowledge of billing practices and regulatory standards
Work with Health Information Systems to integrate and streamline account processes
Manage third-party insurance relationships to improve collections and reduce denials
20% Process Improvement and Compliance
Develop and implement strategic and operational plans to enhance billing office functions
Monitor revenue cycle performance and address process deficiencies
Establish internal auditing procedures for billing accuracy and compliance
Control discounts and write-offs through clearly defined procedures
20% Reporting and Analysis
Develop and analyze reports to support leadership decision-making
Create denial management reports and workflows to improve cash flow and reduce receivables
Collaborate with operations to improve data quality and reduce denials
25% Management Responsibilities (Budgetary & Direct Supervisory)
Supervise and manage billing office staff
Recruit hire train mentor and coach staff to support individual and team performance
Develop and implement training programs on insurance billing CPT and ICD-10 coding and procedural updates
Serve as a resource to staff and other departments on billing operations policies and procedures
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people
A passion for the Centers work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people
Minimum of 8 years of billing management experience or equivalent education at a mid-sized medical outpatient practice using an electronic Practice Management System
Candidate must possess a solid proven background in aspects of medical revenue cycle management
Thorough knowledge of Federally Qualified Healthcare Center billing practices including various insurance billing & collection requirements (Sliding Fee HMO PPO Medicare Medi-Cal and others)
Proficiency with Microsoft office products and advanced Excel skills
Knowledge of ICD-10 HCPCS and CPT Coding
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Strong reporting and analysis skills
Demonstrated leadership/management and ability to work effectively with clients and senior management
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races ethnicities nationalities sexual orientations gender identities gender expression socio-economic backgrounds religions ages English-speaking abilities immigration status and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Allscripts/Veradigm and/or Payor Path experience
AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
