Position Overview
Automation and Controls Engineer
Decatur Illinois USA
Client is seeking an experienced Automation and Controls Engineer to design implement and maintain automated control systems within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience with industrial controls PLCs and software development particularly in regulated settings.
The candidate can be from a pharma company OR companies making automation equipment for pharma.
Key Responsibilities
- System Design & Implementation: Develop and implement control systems including PLCs SCADA HMI and Building Management Systems (BMS) ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve issues with automated electromechanical systems and software minimizing downtime and ensuring system reliability.
- Validation & Compliance: Assist in the validation of equipment and systems ensuring adherence to 21 CFR Part 11 and GAMP 5 standards.
- Project Management: Lead and support projects related to facility modifications equipment installations and system upgrades.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with production quality and engineering teams to support manufacturing operations and improve system performance.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Software Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years in industrial controls PLC programming and software development within a regulated environment.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with Allen-Bradley PLCs and associated software (e.g. RSLogix Studio 5000).
- Experience with SCADA and HMI systems.
- Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of 21 CFR Part 11 and GAMP 5 standards.
- Validation Experience: Proven ability to assist with equipment validation and compliance with Computer System Validation (CSV) requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Siemens and B&R control systems.
- Knowledge of data integrity principles in regulated environments.
- Strong project management skills and experience leading cross-functional teams.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Ability to work flexible hours including shifts and overtime as needed.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.
