About the role:

The OPMHS provides integrated clinical services to the older peoples population of the St Vincents Mental Health Service catchment area (and beyond as required). The OPMHS model of care includes inpatient consultation-liaison hospital outpatients community clinics and outreach to older people at home and residential aged care facilities.
This position will act as a senior clinician and clinical lead of the multidisciplinary team. This position will provide clinical leadership and management of the OPMHS to ensure delivery a high standard of patient care as well as drive service improvement innovation evaluation and research. There is capacity for the incumbent to work in other positions across the Mental Health and Homeless Health service on mutual agreement.

Selection Criteria:

  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincents Health Australia.
  • Possess or be eligible to possess specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists State Award and possess the RANZCP Certificate of Advanced Training in Psychiatry of Old Age (or equivalent qualification).
  • Demonstrated knowledge skills and high standards of clinical practice in Psychiatry of Old Age (and electroconvulsive therapy) commensurate to experience which is appropriate to the requirements of the position.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work in collaborative interprofessional contexts to support the delivery of an effective high quality mental health service.
  • Demonstrated high level verbal and written communication ability including capacity to communicate clearly inclusively and respectfully.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision of specialist trainees junior medical officers medical students and non-medical colleagues.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills that promote robust clinical governance processes and support and foster innovation to create a learning culture with proven ability to improve the quality of services and patient care outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ongoing contribution to the development dissemination and translation of new knowledge and practices commensurate with work in an academic teaching hospital environment.
