*Expected Daily Work Hours: 8:00am 5:00pm *Expected Weekly Work Schedule: Monday Friday
* College offices are normally open from 8:00 AM until 5:00PM Monday through Friday. However due to the nature of responsibility to the student body individual offices or departments may have operating hours that extend beyond this period and may include evening or weekend hours. Non-exempt employees will normally work 8 hours per (any hours more than 40 per week) for non-exempt employees is required to be approved in advance by the department supervisor. Exempt employees will typically work at least 40 hours per week and such additional time as may be reasonably required to fulfill the obligations of their position description. Such additional work may include evenings and weekends and should be described in this document. |
Summary of this position: |
Has full responsibility for the general supervision recruitment training and administration of the varsity softball program while promoting academic and athletic success.

Education required to ensure success in this position:
- Bachelors degree required.
- Masters degree preferred.
Experience required to ensure success in this position:
- Three to five years of college coaching experience.
- College head coaching experience preferred.
Special skills knowledge and abilities:
- Maintain working knowledge of and utilize effective administration practices of the College Athletic Department policies.
- Ability to communicate effectively across a diverse range of backgrounds including cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
License certification or registration necessary:
- Valid Tennessee Drivers license is required or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
- Maintain the MC transportation driving requirements for the school fleet.
- Pass the NCAA rules test yearly and maintain certifications in First Aid & CPR as required by the NCAA.
Physical requirements:
- Ability to navigate campus/public buildings and grounds including large athletic facilities.
- Regularly required to communicate effectively and clearly in both verbal and written communications.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- It is expected that the individual in this position will work at times other than or in addition to normal business hours and days including attendance at numerous evening and weekend events particularly during game season.
Environmental conditions:
- Professional office environment with interruptions and noise due to frequent visitors students staff and faculty. Mostly indoors.
- Includes some overnight and out of state travel mostly by bus van or car.
Ability to operate the following vehicles or equipment:
- Standard office equipment: computer phone etc.
- May be required to operate vehicles college vans/cars/carts

Head Womens Softball Coach:
- Has the knowledge and utilizes effective administration practices of college athletic department policy and procedures and a commitment to NCAA and conference compliance.
- Establishes good rapport and generates respect among students campus colleagues and the local community.
- Finalizes the schedule for their team games; submits schedule to the Athletic Director.
- Provides effective and efficient recruiting; coordinates recruiting efforts through the Enrollment Management Financial Aid and Athletic offices.
- Coordinates the issuance and retrieval of all the programs equipment.
- Communicates with the Head Athletic Trainer regarding player injuries rehabilitative processes and conditioning practices.
- Monitors the academic progress of each student athlete in their program in conjunction with the Senior Associate AD
- Coordinates all publications that revolve around their program with the Athletic Communications office.
- Assists with all reports relative to their sport including game and seasonal statistics season end reports new records award recommendations and other reports deemed necessary.
- Assures accurate bookkeeping on all program-related accounts; must file financial reports promptly and accurately.
- Supervises and secures their facilities; promptly reports items requiring maintenance or security attention to the Athletic Director.
- Attends all athletic staff meetings as scheduled and works effectively with other coaches.
- May participate in college-sponsored or off-campus sports camps and coaching clinics with the approval of the Athletic Director.
- Oversees training instruction gameday and travel of student-athletes
- Attends all the programs athletic contests.
- Represents Maryville College in conference and NFCA meetings for softball.
- Serve as a Game Manager for select home athletic events.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly supervises the Assistant Softball Coach and student workers. Responsibilities include interviewing hiring and training employees; planning assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Other roles/duties will be assigned as necessary to assist the College in the attainment of the goals set forth and the enhancement of a positive respectful learning environment for all staff faculty and students.
