SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT

The Bi-Lingual/ Dual Language- Student & Family Support Para-Educator will work to specially support students and families enrolled in the Dual Language or World language Immersion programs in Clover Park School District. The staff members priority will be partnering with families to ensure they are supported while their students are enrolled in the dual language programs. In addition the para-educator will work collaboratively with teachers to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment assist students in acquiring proficiency in the target language while addressing diverse academic and linguistic needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Act as an ambassador for the Dual Language and World Language Immersion program in your school
  • Meet with families on a regular basis to update them on dual language program details resources for at-home support and share student progress
  • Make regular contact with parents as needed by the classroom teacher
  • Plan and carry out family night for the dual language and world immersion programs
  • Meet with the Teaching and Learning Supervisor on a regular basis to update her on program and family needs
  • Provide instructional support in a world language classroom by assisting with lessons activities and projects under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Facilitate small group or one-on-one instruction to support language acquisition and reinforce lesson content.
  • Support students in developing language skills in reading writing speaking and listening in the target language.
  • Assists in the preparation of instructional materials including visual aids worksheets and multimedia resources.
  • Foster a positive and respectful classroom environment that encourages cultural appreciation and language learning.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or its recognized equivalent (GED)andtwo years of study at an institution of higher education (72 quarter hours);orobtainan associates degree (or higher);ora passing score on a Washington State-approved assessment.
  • Six (6) months of experience working with children or young adults.
  • Passing score on Oral Proficiency Interview in the target language.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in both English and the target language of instruction (e.g. Spanish).
  • Prior experience working with students in an educational setting is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students teachers and parents.
  • Understanding of or willingness to learn strategies for supporting language learners.
  • Ability to accurately and proficiently keyboard and utilize standard office software programs.
  • Ability to perform basic clerical tasks such as filing and use of office equipment such as a personal computer telephone fax and photocopy machine and audiovisual equipment.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently within established guidelines.
  • Ability to listen and respond appropriately to students and families
  • Ability to work with students from a variety of multicultural and socioeconomic backgrounds..
  • Ability to learn skills of verbal de-escalation restraint techniques and behavior management
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a courteous and professional manner with all levels of staff families and community members.
  • Ability to learn and apply District policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Must be organized and dependable.
  • Certification and Licenses
  • Background check and fingerprinting.
  • First aid and CPR certification for employees assigned to the health room and transportation.
  • Employees assigned to special education resource or self-contained classrooms and SLPAs are required to complete the 14 Core Competencies certification within three (3) months of hire. Transportation paraprofessionals must obtain core competencies 12 & 14 within three (3) months of hire.

-DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience in a bilingual or World Language classroom.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in regular school buildings located throughout the District. Ability to sit or stand for prolonged period of time; use of fingers hands and arms; operate a motor vehicle and tolerance of loud noises and physically demanding situations are all required. May have to negotiate steps ramps uneven surfaces and go outdoors in all types of weather to reach some classrooms and/or other district sites. This position is itinerant. The employee is required to use their personal vehicle or have the ability to transport themselves to various locations according to work schedule.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Employment with Clover Park School District is conditional pending completion of a Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint background check as required by RCW28A.400.303. (NOTE: All associated background check fees are the employees responsibility.) The fingerprint scan must be completed prior to the first day of employment.

Employees who are anticipated to work 630 hours during the school year (September 1 through August 31) are eligible for medical dental vision long term disability and basic life insurance benefits.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
