Job Description

About The Team

The emergency team consists of several veterinarians and nurses who work in a 24/7 hospital facility. Emergency and Critical Care specialists provide a trainee and residency program along with training and guidance opportunities for the emergency team members. The hospital also receives afterhours support from various specialist services to ensure optimal care and treatment plans for all animals.

Your New Role!

This position is responsible for ensuring the effective deployment of nursing services and workflow coordination of the Emergency and Critical Care section and after-hours Wards section. within The Animal Hospital at Murdoch University. the Section Head Nurse Supervisor Vet Supervisor Nurse Coordinators and Veterinary Leads together form the ECC leadership team responsible for the functioning of the ECC and After- hours Wards area.

Your Key responsibilities will include

  • Supervise and lead ECC/ICU and WARDS after-hours nursing and support staff and coordinate activities ensuring that duties are performed to required standards.
  • Facilitate and lead service decisions in conjunction with vet leads.
  • In consultation with the ECC Nursing Supervisor and ECC Vet Supervisor ensure ECC and after-hours nursing and support staff are trained in relevant TAHMU policies procedures protocols and techniques including the use cleaning and maintenance of equipment and instruments to the required standard.
  • Assist the ECC Nurse Supervisor in coordinating the further education and training of ECC

What We Offer You!

This Fixed Term Part Time/Full Time (12 Months) (up to 37.5 hours per week) attracts a remuneration of $77K $86K (pro rata) plus 17% employer superannuation contributions with the ability to sacrifice 5% superannuation into your base salary. As this role is in the overnight space the following allowances will apply:

Saturday and Sunday Shift Ordinary hours worked on a Saturday will be paid at 150% of the Professional Employees base hourly rate and on a Sunday will be paid at 175% of the Professional Employees base hourly rate for each hour worked. Afternoon Shift Ordinary hours finishing after 6pm and at or before midnight on any weekday will be paid at 115% of the base hourly rate for each hour worked. Night Shift Ordinary hours finishing after midnight and at or before 8am on any weekday will be paid at 130% of the base hourly rate for each hour worked.

Selection Criteria:

1. Completion of a certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or completion of a relevant Diploma level qualification registrable in Western Australia.

2. Highly effective communication conflict resolution customer service and interpersonal skills and the demonstrated ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with staff at all levels of the organisation.

3. Demonstrated ability and experience in Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Nursing.

4. Previous leadership experience and the ability to lead a team.

5. Excellent organisational time and workload management skills including the ability to prioritise workload to meet strict deadlines.

6. Demonstrated ability to use initiative assume responsibility for tasks and projects and to resolve problems.

7. Ability to work positively in a team environment and foster one hospital approach.

8. Ability to always maintain privacy and discretion.

9. Demonstrated computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
