Job Description:

Barrons is seeking an experienced financial editor to collaborate with our stock pickers in producing compelling well-researched investment analysis. This editor will play a central role in idea generation working closely with reporters to develop and refine stock picks that are deeply analytical forward-looking and actionable for our subscribers. A strong emphasis will be placed on small-cap stocks and short ideas with the editor helping to assess and clearly communicate the risks and rewards inherent in each investment thesis.

In this role the editor will ensure each stock pick thoroughly examines all angles of the opportunity from financial metrics and earnings reports to market positioning and management outlook. The successful candidate will be comfortable interpreting income statements balance sheets and cash flow statements as well as identifying sector-specific tailwinds headwinds and investor sentiment. They will guide reporters in synthesizing complex financial information into clear accessible narratives that resonate with both seasoned investors and those new to the stock.


The ideal candidate will have a sharp editorial sense including a grasp of what makes a story compelling to read as well as experience working closely with reporters to package investment ideas into cohesive digestible stories. Each piece must connect the dots for the reader culminating in a clear recommendation whether to buy or sell complete with a price target. The editor will also manage ongoing coverage of each pick helping to craft follow-up updates and timely alerts in response to market developments.


Additionally the editor will host live Q&A sessions with stock pickers to further engage readers and will assist in editing a weekly investment newsletter. The role involves regular collaboration with news reporters technical analysts and fellow editors and will require fluency in using research tools and data platforms that support idea development and analysis.


This position is based in New York.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform rigorous editing of stock picks to produce engaging and convincing analysis

  • Evaluate stocks in an idea pipeline helping to produce at least one new pick per week

  • Closely follow movement of previous stock picks and help provide ongoing updates per scheduled intervals and special alerts

  • Collaborate with colleagues and other departments to perform research brainstorm on ideas and receive feedback

  • Closely follow markets to determine which stocks may be of particular interest based on news and which may be missed by Wall Street and readers

Qualifications:

  • Preferably five to ten years of experience editing on investing platforms

  • Three to five years of experience in audio/podcasting environments

  • Facility with SEO and audience strategies

  • Adept at assessing risks to an investment thesis particularly for small-cap stocks

  • Ability to communicate with investors of all stripes in a clear and respectful way

You will:

  • Work well under pressure and with other members of the team

  • Pitch creative and compelling story ideas

  • Collaborate closely with stock pickers on their articles

  • Anticipate questions readers have about the stock pick and help stock pickers prepare to address their queries

  • Be responsive to the community in a timely fashion
