Job Description

The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank is currently recruiting anAmeriCorps ASN-Healthy Harvest Corps to join in our mission to feed people and fight hunger. TheAmeriCorps program is a national service program where you commit to serve for a full year with your Foodbank.

MEMBER DUTIES: In support of the mission of The Ohio Association of Foodbanks members of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank will support a coordinated statewide effort to prioritize investments in scaling and sustaining food as medicine initiatives. Members will support new emerging and expanding services that address hunger as a social determinant of health. Term Dates: August 25 2025 - July 24 2026

Primary duties (minimum 50% of members time):

  1. Toolkit Utilization & Phased Implementation:
  • Utilize the HER and SWAP Toolkit available on the OAF Member Portal to execute a phased approach to implementing HER and SWAP guidelines at foodbank-led pantries and programs as a pilot initiative.
  1. Internal Training & Education (Phase 1):
  • Develop and assist with delivering training materials to raise awareness and increase the knowledge of HER and SWAP among foodbank staff.
  • Conduct readiness assessments to determine the internal capacity for implementing HER and SWAP guidelines.
  1. Preliminary Ranking (Phase 2):
  • Rank easy rule-of-thumb items (e.g. items that dont require a nutrition label) at foodbank pantries using the SWAP guidelines.
  • Work with foodbank pantry staff to identify opportunities for implementing healthier food choices.
  1. Nutrition Label Ranking (Phase 3):
  • Analyze available nutrition labels to rank additional food items based on HER and SWAP criteria.
  • Develop a tracking system to document ranked items for future use and integration.
  1. Support Pilot Implementation at Foodbank-Led Pantries (Phase 4):
  • Work alongside foodbank pantry staff to implement HER and SWAP rankings in food distribution practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of HER and SWAP guidelines during the pilot.
  • Gather feedback from pantry staff and neighbors to inform potential adjustments to the external implementation process.
  1. Program Assessment and Recommendations:
  • Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the pilot implementation at foodbank-led pantries.
  • Create a detailed report with recommendations on scaling HER and SWAP guidelines to the broader network based on the pilot outcomes.
  1. Resource Development:
  • Develop tools resources and templates that can support future network-wide implementation of HER and SWAP guidelines.
Secondary activities (up to 40% of their time)
  • Assist with foodbank-led pantry operations including stocking shelves organizing inventory checking in neighbors.
  • Provide on-site support at mobile pantry locations such as setting up distribution stations and checking in neighbors.
  • Support efforts to collect neighbor feedback through surveys or informal conversations to improve the overall neighbor experience.
  • Provide administrative support for the home delivery and CSFP programs such as updating delivery records and assisting with neighbor inquiries or changes.
  • Comply with all AmeriCorps program guidelines by maintaining service hours training hours and service projects as outlined in the AmeriCorps Service Agreement.
  • Attend all required training courses and staff meetings and participate in AmeriCorps service projects.
  • Understand and promote the Mission and Vision of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank that values diversity and celebrates the positive aspects of a multicultural society.
Qualifications:
  • Some College
  • At least 18 years of Age
  • Must pass criminal background check and drug screen
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office software and data entry programs
  • Positive and professional written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Familiarity with tracking program metrics and using data to improve program outcomes.
  • Ability to work and communicate with people of diverse backgrounds and skillsets.
