Description:
- Attend a 37.5 hour professional development opportunity (about 2.5 hours a day over 3 weeks). Participate with High School students in a part-time five-day program during mornings in July to learn about data science and AI in order to gain hands-on experience with generative AI tools.
- Computer science and AI experience is not required.
- Receive training on how to run a summer career academy program or integrate AI and industry career exploration into a STEM classroom.
- Gain insights into strategies for how to teach AI prompt engineering ethics and emerging AI tools.
- Learn coding basics in Python.
- Play a leading role in shaping AI Education in Massachusetts.
- Program operational hours: Monday - Friday 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 7 - July 25 2025.
Background:
- Burlington High School is hosting a program for 50 students with little or no computer science knowledge to learn about AI and AI careers. Instruction will take place in an air-conditioned Burlington High School classroom Monday - Thursday. Each Friday students will go to industry locations and during the last week students will be going to UMass Lowell. The curriculum is being provided and delivered by college students with expertise in computer science and AI. Teachers are needed to provide oversight and support to these college leaders and students and there will be an Academy Director on site at all times to provide support to teachers.
