About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and licensed Senior Physician to join a secure care facility and provide comprehensive medical services to a diverse inmate population. This is a unique opportunity to practice meaningful mission-driven medicine in a correctional healthcare setting. You will play a critical role in managing the clinical operations and ensuring the highest standards of care are delivered in alignment with established medical protocols and ethical guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver direct patient care including medical examinations diagnosis treatment planning and follow-up services.
- Lead clinical operations in collaboration with the Health Services Administrator and nursing staff.
- Monitor patient care activities review standards and conduct medical rounds within the facility.
- Participate in and oversee treatment team planning patient admissions and clinical evaluations.
- Provide guidance and support to nursing personnel and contribute to professional development.
- Maintain medical documentation and reports in compliance with confidentiality policies and applicable regulations.
- Oversee hospitalizations and manage critical care follow-ups.
- Engage in quality improvement and cost-effectiveness initiatives related to healthcare delivery.
- Participate in court proceedings and legal documentation as required.
- Act as the point of contact for external healthcare agencies and hospital systems.
- Ensure facility accreditation and regulatory compliance (NCCHC ACA JCAHO).
- Respond effectively in emergency situations and perform occasional minor surgical procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Medical degree from an accredited medical school.
- Valid and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of California (or willingness to obtain).
- Board certification in a relevant medical specialty.
- Minimum of 5 years of post-graduate clinical experience preferably including institutional or correctional medicine.
- Valid drivers license.
- Strong leadership communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in high-pressure secure environments with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in correctional healthcare or institutional settings.
- Familiarity with standards from NCCHC ACA and JCAHO.
- Experience with minor surgical procedures and emergency medical interventions.
Languages Required
- English fluency (written and verbal) is essential.
