Job Goals:
The primary goal is to provide case management high quality instruction in the areas determined by each students individualized education program (IEP) and support in collaboration with the district to students in the VBISD Deaf & Hard of Hearing Program.
Qualifications:
Education & Certification:
Bachelors Degree in Education from an accredited university with a valid Michigan teaching certificate in special education. Preference will be given to candidates who hold a Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) endorsement.
Work Experience:
At least 3 years previous experience working with students with DHH and other disabilities in a school setting is preferred.
Skills:
- Fluent in American Sign Language
- Ability to provide specialized and differentiated instruction for DHH students in the areas of academic skills communication skills social skills and transition
- Ability to evaluate and track progress data on student skills in learning behavior and communication using informal and formal assessments
- Ability to plan comprehensive education programs to develop language social-emotional skills and community living skills as well as academic skills based on Extended and or Grade Level Content Expectations
- Cooperate in planning curriculum and instructional programs with other educators and consultants to encourage integrated team services for the students
- Ability to assist with personal care as needed
- Ability to provide accommodations modifications and instructional techniques to support students in all settings
- Ability to follow team decisions established policies and procedures and designated lines of communication and authority
- Ability to integrate technology into the curriculum
- Ability to demonstrate professional skills including a willingness to:

- Adhere to federal state and VBISD policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate regular reliable and punctual attendance.

- Perform additional tasks responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education and the Superintendent.
Essential Job Functions:
- Ability to lift at least 25 pounds.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to travel to multiple locations each day.
- Ability to travel far distances to participate in professional development.
- Valid drivers license required.
Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
